Archibald to Transfer
Men's basketball sophomore-to-be will return to Utah Valley State College.

PULLMAN, Wash. - After an emotionally draining school year which culminated
with the death of his father, Beau Archibald has decided to leave the
Washington State men's basketball program according to head coach Kevin
Eastman Tuesday afternoon.
The 6-foot-6 sophomore-to-be will return to Utah Valley State College (Orem,
Utah), a school he attended part time during the 1995-96 academic year.
Eastman said that no future basketball plans for Archibald have been
discussed at this point.
"The passing of his father was a tough situation for Beau to go through this
past year," said Eastman via telephone call. "His decision to get closer to
home is in the best interest of Beau and his family at this time. We wish
Beau all the best as he and his family rebound from a very difficult year."
Archibald's father Lynn, a long-time basketball coach who last served as
Director of Basketball Operations at Brigham Young University during the
1996-97 season, passed away May 28 after a long battle with prostate cancer.
Archibald's mother Anne resides in Provo, Utah.
In his first year with the Cougars, Archibald was the team's fourth-leading
scorer (6.1 points per game) as he came off the bench in 29 games. He was
also second on the team in blocked shots (14).
The departure of Archibald leaves Washington State with 11 student-athletes
on scholarship for the 1997-98 basketball year.
