Washington State Shows Fight, Falls at Oregon State
February 21, 2026 | Women's Basketball
CORVALLIS, Ore. (February 21, 2026) – Washington State women's basketball battled on the road Saturday afternoon but couldn't overcome a sharp-shooting first half from Oregon State, falling 79-51 at Gill Coliseum.
The Cougars (5-24, 4-12 WCC) finished with 35 rebounds and 26 points in the paint.
Stat leaders for Washington State were Alex Covill with 15 points on 7-of-15 shooting, Keandra Koorits with 13 points off the bench, and Mackenzie Chatfield adding 12 points while attacking downhill and finishing through contact.
WSU fought through a physical opening quarter, leaning on interior touches from Covill and early aggression from Chatfield to stay within striking distance. WSU generated quality looks inside but struggled to convert early, while Oregon State capitalized in transition and from the perimeter to take a 21-10 lead after one.
Washington State found its rhythm in the second quarter, stringing together its best offensive stretch of the game. Koorits sparked the run with a corner three and consecutive drives to the rim, while Covill continued to score efficiently in the paint as the Cougars cut into the deficit. Despite the push, Oregon State answered with timely threes to carry a 47-29 advantage into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Washington State set the tone defensively. Chatfield opened the half by converting at the line and finishing in transition, and a mid-quarter jumper from Covill trimmed the margin to 12 as the Cougars continued to win the battle on the glass. WSU grabbed 15 rebounds in the third quarter alone, repeatedly creating second-chance opportunities, but Oregon State again found answers late in the period to maintain control.
The Cougars continued to compete into the fourth, highlighted by a Jean Chiu three and steady execution in half-court sets. Washington State moved the ball well throughout the afternoon, finishing with 12 assists, and outscored Oregon State in points in the paint during several stretches. Ultimately, the early deficit and Oregon State's perimeter shooting proved difficult to overcome.
