Cougars Cruise 104-74 Over Pilots to Close Home Stand

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State men's basketball team scored a season-high 104 points, defeating the Portland Pilots by 30 points, 104-74, Saturday afternoon at Beasley Coliseum. The Cougars (11-13, 6-5) picked up their third-straight win and completed the season sweep of Portland behind a season-best 26 assists and 55 percent shooting.

Junior Eemeli Yalaho scored a career-high 26 points to lead WSU, adding a team-high nine rebounds. From the opening jump the Finn carried the Cougs, scoring 16 first-half points, 3-of-3 from beyond the arc and a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor at intermission.

For the third-straight game and fourth time over a five-game stretch, Wazzu shot over 50 percent from the floor, while matching a season-high 16 three-pointers. Six different Cougars made a 3-pointer, led by Rihards Vavers shooting 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. Vavers finished with 18 points.

With 11 minutes remaining in the second half, Portland pulled within two points of the Cougs. It was the final time the Pilots pulled within a possession of WSU, as the Cougars sparked an 11-0 run over the next three and a half minutes to reclaim a double-digit lead.

WSU's ball control and distribution allowed the Cougs to control the tempo with just eight turnovers to contrast the season-high 26 assists. Senior Adria Rodriguez dished a career-high nine assists and was complemented by freshman Ace Glass with a career-best seven assists.

The Cougars 104 points marked the most points in a regulation-game at Beasley Coliseum in 30 seasons. WSU had previously eclipsed 104 points multiple times in overtime but had not dropped as many points in regulation on Friel Court since scoring 106 points in a win over CSUN, January 25, 1995.

WSU's bench assisted in the offensive production, as Parker Gerrits delivered a career-high 11 points, his first-career double-digit game, with the Cougar bench pouring in 29 total points.

The Washington State men will take a midweek road trip to Corvallis, Oregon to face the Oregon State Beavers, Wednesday, February 4. Tip off from Gill Coliseum is scheduled for 8 p.m. PT with coverage on CBS Sports Network.
