WSU Fights Through Road Test at Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. (January 22, 2026) – Washington State women's basketball stayed within striking distance for much of the night before Pacific pulled away late in a 65-53 decision Thursday evening at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

The Cougars (4-18, 3-6 WCC) scored 23 bench points, went 13-of-15 from the free throw line and hauled in a season-best 16 offensive rebounds, but shot 30 percent from the field.

Eleonora Villa finished with 11 points, five assists and three steals. Charlotte Abraham led the Cougars with 12 points, and Keandra Koorits added eight off the bench.

Wazzu battled through a defensive, low-scoring first half and trailed by just one at the break, 26-25, after grinding their way back from an early deficit. WSU generated extra possessions and leaned on its defense early, forcing Pacific into stretches of empty trips.

After Pacific opened the game with a slight edge, Washington State closed the first quarter on a positive note behind strong interior defense from Alex Covill, who recorded multiple early blocks. Koorits buried a corner three in the final minute of the opening period, and Marta Alsina's jumper at the horn pulled the Cougars within 12-11 after one.

The Cougars carried that momentum into the second quarter, trading baskets and briefly pulling even midway through the period. Villa sparked the offense with aggressive drives and playmaking, while Abraham knocked down a key three late in the half to keep WSU within one heading into halftime.

Pacific began to create separation coming out of the locker room, capitalizing on transition chances and timely perimeter shooting. Despite baskets from Villa and Tanja Valancic, and another late three from Koorits, the Tigers used a decisive run midway through the third quarter to push the margin to nine entering the fourth.

Washington State continued to compete in the final period, cutting into the deficit behind strong bench contributions and steady free-throw shooting. Lauren Glazier and Valancic provided energy on the glass, while Villa added late buckets and defensive pressure.

Ultimately, Pacific's efficiency down the stretch proved decisive, as the Tigers shot 8-for-13 in the fourth quarter to seal the outcome.
