Eva Alvarez Sande and
Maxine Murphy saw their run at the ITA All-American Championships end Monday at the Cary Tennis Park.
Facing the No. 9-seeded Nikola Daubnerova and Xinyi Nong of Florida, the Cougar pair had chances in the first set but could not overcome a break of serve and feel, 6-4, In the second, Alvarez and Sande captured two breaks and cruised to a 6-2 second set, forcing a 10-point tiebreaker to decide the match. After an early 4-2 lead, the Florida pair captured eight-straight points to clinch a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-4) win and advance to the second round.
The Cougars are next in action Friday, Sept. 27, when they host the Cougar Classic at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
