PULLMAN, Wash. (April 5, 2025) – Washington State rallied with two runs in the 11
th as
Max Hartman brought home the game-winner with a sacrifice fly for a 6-5 series-clinching win over San Jose State in front of a Bailey-Brayton Field sellout crowd of 2,494 Saturday afternoon.

It was the first sellout since 2015 and WSU's second extra-inning win this week after beating Gonzaga 7-6 in ten innings Tuesday in Spokane.

The Cougars rallied for a 5-4 deficit with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 11
th inning as
Jonah Shull worked a pinch-hit one-out walk and
Griffin Myers followed with a pinch-hit double down the right field line to put runners on second and third. Freshman third baseman
Kyler Northrop lined the first pitch he saw the other way into right field to score Shull as the game-tying run before Hartman drove an 0-1 pitch deep to centerfield to score Myers on a sacrifice fly.

Logan Johnstone collected three hits including his team-leading sixth homer,
Gavin Roy had two RBI and Northrop collected two hits. Reliever Luke Myers struck out six over five innings and earned the win.

SJSU tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the seventh, tied things at 4-4 with a run in the eight and took a 5-4 lead in the eleventh before the Cougars rallied in the bottom of the frame.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
San Jose State scored a pair of runs in the third but the Cougars answered in the fourth.
Ryan Skjonsby led off the inning with line drive single the other way to left field,
Logan Johnstone followed with a single through the right side and both runners moved up on a
Will Cresswell groundout before Roy bounced a single back up the middle to tie the game at two.

SJSU threated in the fifth but Cougar reliever
Gabe Schneider entered from the bullpen and stranded a pair of runners to end the inning with a groundout and fielder's choice groundout to third base. Schneider posted a scoreless sixth before Johnstone hit a no-doubt solo homer to right field in the bottom of the inning for a 3-2 lead. SJSU evened things up with a two-out-solo homer to right field in the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, with runners on first and second,
Max Hartman grounded a ball to the second baseman who fumbled the double play turn and
Cole Watterson raced around from second to score the go-ahead run. The Spartans evened things up with a single and RBI-double to left-centerfield in the eighth inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Cougars again threatened with runners on second and third but SJSU called upon its closer and ended the threat with a pair of strikeouts.

In the 11
th, the Spartans led off with a single to centerfield, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch before scoring a high-chopper fielder's choice to the pitcher that the throw was just late, allowing the go-ahead run to score.
