WSU Boasts 22 Bests to Conclude Cougar Classic

| By:
PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State track and field wrapped up the 2025 Cougar Classic with 17 event wins and 22 season bests or personal records. The Cougs recognized 15 seniors Saturday morning for their commitment and achievement to the program as student-athletes.

Mason Andulajevic started off the early morning at Mooberry Track & Field Complex with a second-place finish in the hammer throw. He started off strong on the first throw with a distance of 59.80 meters and improved that up on the third throw, going for 59.95 meters. His best throw of the morning came on the fourth with a distance of 60.63 meters, which secured his second place finish. Tristain Webb succeeded on his fifth throw, finishing in fifth with a distance of 49.89 meters. Henry Sheldrup rounded out the Cougs, finishing ninth, with a throw distance of 46.84 meters.

The Cougars dominated the men's 100-meter dash with a podium sweep. Junior Mason Lawyer dominated the 100-meter dash with the 16th fastest time in Division-I, clocking a 10.19 – the third fastest time in program history – and a PR for the sprinter standout. Lawyer finished ahead of Bryson Stubblefield with a second-place time of 10.40, a season-best and the 82nd fastest time in the country. Keenan Kuntz delivered a season-best 10.51 to clinch third place for the Cougs.

Senior Luceris Suarez Pacheco takes home her second javelin throw win of the outdoor season with a distance of 45.30 meters. It only took her three attempts to reach that mark in which she blew out the rest of the field winning by 2 meters over her teammate Laura Lindquist. Lindquist finished with a distance of 43.21 meters, which she set on her fourth throw of the morning. Baylee Wroble rounded out the sweep of the podium for the Cougs with a distance of 42.78 meters. She wasted no time and set this distance on her first throw of the morning.

Grant Buckmiller delivered a new season best in the 400-meter with a 46.10, the 43rd fastest time in Division-I and 23rd-fastest time in the west region. Buckmiller clinched first ahead of WSU's Royal Haley in third with a PR 46.22, 28th in the west and 57th in the country.

The men's 4x100 relay team of Bryson Stubblefield, Mason Lawyer, Parker Duskin, and Keenan Kuntz set a season-best time for the Cougs, finishing first with a time of 39.26 seconds. Stubblefield started the race commanding a lead for the team, which they would have for the rest of the race. Lawyer, Duskin, and Kuntz all performed perfect hand-offs and let nothing come in their way of victory.

Riley Pyeatt won her first 1500-meter race of the outdoor season with a commanding time of 4:35.21. She started the race hot and there was no turning back from there. She led by almost five seconds at one point in the third lap of the race and held a lead of over two seconds until the end. Maya Nichol finished second, with a personal best time of 4:37.53. She held with Pyeatt for the first part of the race but just couldn't find the push at the end. Jaylyn Lehner also set a personal best, finishing seventh with a time of 4:42.28.

Four Cougs competed in the women's pole vault, led by sophomore Tatum Moku with a first-place mark of 4.28 meters. Moku finished ahead of fellow Coug Chloe Metz with a season best height of 4.03 meters. Senior Angie Turner cleared 3.43 meters for sixth place and Madisyn Negro cleared 3.28 meters for a seventh-place finish.

In the women's 4x100 relay, the team of Zakiya Hill, Brooke Lyons, Zoe Ray, and Ashley Hollenbeck finished first overall with a time of 45.49 seconds. Hill started the race strong right next to the runner from Idaho in the lane next to her. Then Lyons blew away from the competition in the second 100-meter section of the race, and the rest is history. Ray and Hollenbeck pushed through their final two parts of the race with the Cougs taking home the victory.

In the women's high jump, Alexandra Gustavel took home another victory for the Cougs, finishing with a best height of 1.66 meters. After a failed first attempt at 1.66 meters, she easily got over the bar on the second attempt. Sarah Kovich and Daj Williams finished third and fourth, respectively, with heights of 1.61 meters. Williams also compete in the long jump, clinching fifth with a jump of 5.22 meters in her fourth jump.

The Cougars went 1-2 in the women's 100-meter dash, with sophomore Brooke Lyons delivering a first-place time of 11.69 seconds. Senior Ashley Hollenbeck Willems finished second with a PR of 11.79.

Junior Blake Sturgis now holds the 34th best javelin throw in NCAA Division-I this season, throwing a distance of 68.25 meters. This was a personal best throw for him that came on his fourth attempt of the afternoon. His last throw of the day had the crowd thinking he may have beat his throw from earlier, but it was just short by a couple of meters. Evan Berg also impressed this afternoon, setting a personal best throw of 64.93 meters on his first attempt. This is now the 64th best throw in NCAA Division-I.

In the men's pole vault, Mason Mahacek won the event with a height of 4.58. He hit this on his first attempt and just couldn't find the height on any of his three attempts at 4.73 meters. Gavin Dimmick also got on the podium, finishing second with a height of 4.58 meters as well. He missed his first attempt at 4.58 meters which is why Mahacek takes home the victory.

AJ McGloflin took the top spot in the men's high jump with a mark of 2.10, just shy of his PR of 2.18 meters. McGloflin finished ahead of Antoni Smith who claimed second place with a 2.05-meter height.

The Cougs took home a win in the women's 4x400-meter relay, with the Cougar quartet of Maya McCabe, Brooke Lyons, Rosemary Longisa, and Zoe Ray racing to a time of 3:41.27.

Running as the lone Coug in the 400-meter hurdles, senior Eysias Banks clocked a first-place time of 52.61 seconds.

Parker Duskin took first place in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.76. He finished just ahead of John Parades in second place at 13.99, the only two competitors to run sub-14 seconds in the event.

Sophomore Evan Bruce led the Cougs to a victory in the 3000-meter race, leading WSU graduate Brian Barsaiya for the final three laps. Bruce clocked a time of 8:29.89 to clinch the distance win.

Tatum Moku finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.57 seconds. This was her first track event of the year, an impressive showing. Sarah Kovich finished on the podium with a time of 15.09 seconds. 2024 WSU All-American Hurdler, Maribel Caicedo, ran unattached and finished in first with a time of 13.41 seconds.

One day removed from a victory in the men's discus, freshman Kai Twaddle-Dunham claimed second in the shot put, throwing his best mark in his final attempt with a 16.35-meter push.

In the women's 800-meter, Hanna Bailey set a PR with a time of 2:18.98 to take fifth place. Lily Herman finished ahead of her in fourth, clocking a time of 2:17.87.

WSU took six of the top 10 spots in the men's 800-meter race, with Kellen Langford setting a PR in second place with a 1:49.94. Ferran Verges took fourth in 1:52.29, followed by Alec Barran in sixth at 1:53.22. Chase Bartlett rounded out the top-10 with a season best 1:54.83.

Women's shot put saw a pair of Cougs advance to finals with Lindi Kessinger finishing sixth with a put of 12.27 meters in her final preliminary throw. Sarah Kovich set a PR with an eighth-place throw of 12.01 meters.

Eli Lawrence jumped to second place in the men's long jump, reaching the finals with a 6.82-meter mark in the preliminary rounds, before improving to 6.88 meters in his fifth jump of the day. Gavin Dimick participated in long jump following his javelin success, tallying a jump of 6.12 meters on his first jump.

The 2025 Cougar Classic concluded with a second-place finish and PR by junior Laura Lindquist in the hammer throw. Lindquist tossed a 54.98 in the final event, one of only three student-athletes to throw over 50 meters.
