Five Cougars Capture West Coast Conference All-Academic Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. (April 23, 2025) – Five Washington State Tennis student-athletes, led by first-team selections Maxine Murphy and Elyse Tse, were named to 2025 West Coast Conference Women's Tennis All-Academic teams, the conference announced Wednesday.

Murphy and Tse were named to the WCC All-Academic Team, while Hania Abouelsaad, Eva Alvarez Sande and Martina Markov were named WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention.

Murphy, a redshirt-junior from Laguna Nigel, Calif., who Tuesday All-WCC First Team accolades in singles and doubles, was named the WCC All-Academic Team after maintaining a 3.69 grade point average. A President's Honor Roll member, Murphy is working toward a degree in kinesiology.

Tse, a senior form Auckland, New Zealand, who received All-WCC Honorable Mention honors Tuesday, was named to the WCC All-Academic Team with a 3.95 GPA. Tse, a President' honor roll member, will graduate next month with a degree in digital technology and culture, a degree she will earn in three and a half years.

Alvarez Sande, a junior from Coruna, Galicia, Spain, an All-WCC Singles and Doubles First Team selection, received WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention honors for 2025 after posting a 3.70 GPA. Alvarez Sande is a President's Honor Roll member while majoring in bio engineering.

Abouelsaad, a senior from Alexandria, Egypt, teamed with Markov to garner All-WCC Honorable Mention honors, received the same distinction on the academic side Wednesday. She carries a 3.49 GPA while having earned her marketing degree and working towards her MBA.

Markov, a sophomore from Ingelheim, Germany, carries a 3.78 GPA as she was received WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention honors. A digital technology and culture major, she also is a President's Honor Roll member.

The Cougars will be the No. 3 seed when the WCC Championships begin this Thursday in San Diego. WSU will face No. 6 Portland at 10 a.m. at the Aztec Tennis Complex on the San Diego State campus. The Cougars defeated Portland, 4-2, April 12 in Portland.
