PULLMAN, Wash. (April 17, 2025) – Washington State dropped the series-opening to Nevada 19-0 at Bailey-Brayton Field Thursday evening.

The Cougars received two hits from
Kyler Northrop while starting pitcher
Nick Lewis allowed just three earned runs while working into the seventh inning. Nevada turned a 1-0 lead into a 19-0 win with six runs in the seventh, one in the eighth and 11 in the ninth.

Nevada starting pitcher Peyton Fosher was tough on the Cougar hitters all game, striking out five and scattered three hits over six innings.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
Nevada used a leadoff double down the left field line and a bloop single into centerfield to take a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Johnstone bounced a single up the middle in the fourth inning but the Cougars stranded a runner to end the frame.

The Wolfpack nearly made it 2-0 in the fifth after an RBI-triple to right field but WSU appealed at third base that the runner missed the base and it was confirmed to wipe out the run and keep it 1-0. In the bottom of the frame,
Luke Thiele bounced a single up the middle and Northrop put down a bunt single to third base with two outs but Nevada starter Peyton Fosher ended the threat with a flyout to right field, stranding two Cougar runners.

In the seventh, Nevada used a pair of hits and a walk to load the bases before a bases-loaded walk brought in a run, a two-run single and error brought three runs home for a 5-0 advantage. UNR added two more runs on a wild pitch and a throwing error to make it 7-0. The Wolfpack added 11 runs in the ninth.
