PULLMAN, Wash. (March 9, 2025) – Washington State brought the game-winning run to the plate in the ninth inning but Seattle U held on for a 12-10 win in the series-finale at Bailey-Brayton Field Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars clinched the series after taking the two first games, 6-4 Friday and 9-4 Saturday and have won back-to-back series after taking three of four from Iowa in Texas last weekend.
Ten Cougar hitters recorded at least one hit including
Ryan Skjonsby,
Logan Johnstone and
Will Cresswell who each tallied two hits.
Ollie Obenour, Johnstone,
Jack Weise and
Griffin Myers each drove in two runs.
WSU took a 3-1 lead into the third inning but Seattle U scored in five straight innings including two in the third, one in the fourth, three in the fifth, two in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
The Cougars entered the bottom of the ninth trailing 12-4 and made it a two-run game with sixth runs on four hits in the inning. WSU loaded the bases with nobody out and scored a run with a Obenour sacrifice fly, Johnstone worked a bases loaded walk, Weise singled home two runs and Myers singled home two runs before Seattle U ended the rally with a groundout.

Both teams traded runs in the opening frame as Seattle U hit an opposite field solo homer to right-centerfield before the Cougars answered with a two-out RBI-single back up the middle from
Logan Johnstone. WSU took a 3-1 lead in the second after
Cole Watterson beat out an infield single to second base that Cresswell came around to score on from second base. Hartman followed with an RBI-double off the wall in left-centerfield.
Seattle U built a 4-3 lead with two runs in the third on a pair of walks, infield single and error and a groundout and added another run in the fourth after a walk, two wild pitches and a double. The Redhawks added three more in the fifth on a double, back-to-back triples and a wild pitch to take a 7-3 lead.
Seattle U pulled away with two more runs in the seventh inning and another in the ninth before holding off the Cougars in the ninth.
