SPOKANE/ SEATTLE / ALBUQUERQUE / CLEMSON — Following Friday's record-setting efforts when two school records were broken, Washington State freshman
Rosemary Longisa broke her own two-week-old record in the Mile to highlight a busy day of action Saturday with events in Clemson, S.C., Albuquerque, N.M., Seattle and Spokane. At the four events, Cougar student-athletes captured three event titles while setting 16 personal-best marks.
Â
At the Whitworth Invitational, pole vaulter
Gavin Dimick, sprinter
Keenan Kuntz and hurdler
Parker Duskin each came away with event titles.
Â
Husky Classic – Seattle, Wash.
On the same track that she broke the school Mile record last month, Longisa took over 1.8 seconds off her previous mark as she crossed the line in a time of 4-minutes, 40.09 seconds, finishing ninth in a very competitive field. In just her second race at this distance in a Cougar uniform, Longisa has posted the two fastest times in school history, taking nearly three seconds off the previous record. In the same event,
Riley Pyeatt took more than two seconds off her previous-best time after finishing in 4:52.23.
Â
Longisa came back Saturday afternoon in the women's 800m and finished 11th in a person-best time of 2:07.71, the third-fastest time in program history. In the women's 3000m Invite race, sophomore
Zenah Cheptoo slashed nearly eight seconds off her previous season best as she finished in 9:06.84, 15th overall and the 36th-fastest time in NCAA Division I this season.
Â
In the men's Mile, freshman Josphat Meli posted a personal-best time of 4:07.87, finishing 69th overall. Sophomore Kelley Langford ran a season-best 1:52.23 in the men's 800, finishing 29th.
Â
Whitworth Invitational – Spokane, Wash.
The largest contingent of Cougars competed in Spokane this weekend where three event wins and 12 personal bests were recorded. Redshirt-freshman Kuntz posted back-to-back personal bests in the semifinals and finals of the 60m dash, winning the event in a time of 6.77 seconds. Duskin also was an event winner, coming away with the 60m Hurdles title, running 7.90 seconds in the final.
Â
In the men's pole vault, Dimick led a one-two Cougar finish as he and
Seth Nelson both set personal bests at 5.15m (16' 10.75"), with Dimick winning based on fewer jumps in the previous round.
Â
Freshman
Lahela Ray finished second in the 60m dash, posting PR's in both the semifinals and finals, where she finished second, running 7.62 seconds in the final to finish second. Also finishing second was senior
Ethan Willems in the 400m, where his 46.56 time was a PR and the third-fastest mark in program history.
Â
Also finishing second was
Daj Williams in the triple jump (11.31m),
Antoni Smith in the high jump (2.03m) and
Alexandra Gustavel in the high jump, leaping a personal-best of 1.70m (5' 7").
Â
Tiger Paw Invitational – Clemson, S.C.
Junior
Mason Lawyer was the lone Cougar competing in Clemson Saturday, finishing eighth overall in the men's 200m Orange flight. Lawyer won the sixth heat in a time of 20.90, just 0.05 seconds off his season-best set last month in Albuquerque, N.M.
Â
Don Kirby Elite Invitational – Albuquerque, N.M.
At the Don Kirby Elite, sophomore pole vaulter
Tatum Moku finished sixth overall after clearing 4.36m (14' 3.5"). Moku, who set the school record last weekend in Spokane with a height of 4.43m (14' 6.25"), connected on her third try at 4.36m, but was not as fortunate at the next height of 4.46m (14' 7.50"), missing on all three attempts.
Â
In the men's triple jump, junior
Eli Lawrence managed a distance of 15.06 to finish 10th in the event. Lawrence reached the distance on his third jump of the series.
