ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands (November 29, 2025) – Washington State women's basketball showed resilience and long stretches of composed, confident play Saturday night, refusing to back down from undefeated No. 5 LSU in a 112-35 contest at the Elridge Wilburn Blake Sports and Fitness Center.
Despite the final margin, the Cougars (1-7) delivered several encouraging individual performances and held their own for extended stretches against one of the nation's most explosive offenses.
WSU knocked down six 3-pointers, forced 15 LSU turnovers, and saw multiple young players step into expanded roles with poise.
Charlotte Abraham led the Cougars with 10 points, knocking down a pair of threes and attacking the lane fearlessly.
Malvina Haziri added nine points, all on 3-pointers, giving WSU a much-needed perimeter spark off the bench.
Eleonora Villa chipped in eight points, including a confident fast-break three in the first quarter that helped settle the Cougars offensively.
Malia Ruud, facing one of the nation's most physical frontcourts, battled for four points, two rebounds and a steal, while also facilitating the offense with two assists. Her third-quarter layup and later feed to
Keandra Koorits highlighted her growth as an all-around contributor.
WSU also showed encouraging ball movement, finishing with 13 assists on 13 made field goals.
Marta Alsina dished out five of them and added two made free throws, continuing to emerge as one of the team's most reliable distributors.
Defensively, the Cougars generated eight steals, with Ruud, Villa, Alsina, Haziri,
Jean Chiu,
Mackenzie Chatfield, and Koorits all contributing in the passing lanes.
After a tough first half against LSU's relentless pressure, the Cougars regrouped and put together their best offensive stretch of the night in the third quarter, scoring 15 points behind threes from Abraham and Haziri, and strong takes to the basket by Villa and Ruud.
The matchup, against one of the most experienced veteran lineups in the country, offered valuable minutes for WSU's developing rotation. Ten Cougars logged double-digit minutes as the staff continued to build depth and game experience.
