LAHAINA, Hawaii – The Washington State men's basketball (3-3) defeated hosting Chaminade in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Southwest Maui Invitational, 90-85, Monday afternoon at Lahaina Civic Center in Hawaii. WSU's duo of
Ace Glass and
Rihards Vavers each posted career highs and combined for 51 points in the Cougar victory.
Player Performances – True freshman
Ace Glass led the Cougs with a career-high 26 points, his second-consecutive 20-point game and second time leading WSU in scoring. Glass' scoring marked the most points by a Coug freshman since Myles Rice scored 35 points at Stanford in January 2024.
Rihards Vavers added a career-high 25 points on seven made 3-pointers, the most by a Cougar player since at least 1996. Adria Rodriguez dished out a career-high six assists in the win.
Bench Business – The Cougars scored 67 bench points, thanks to Vavers' and Glass' 51 points, the most by a WSU team this season. The Cougs' bench outscored the Silverswords, 67-23, and shot a season-best 48% from beyond the arc.
Tale of Two Halves – Washington State was troubled by a slow start, trailing to Division-II Chaminade by as many as 20 points in the first half. The Cougars overcame their largest deficit in a win, outscoring the 'Swords 49-33 in the second half. In the opening stanza, the Cougs committed 15 turnovers to Chaminade's two. Returning from the break, WSU forced 10 turnovers, while committing eight turnovers.
