PULLMAN, Wash. – The WSU Men's Cross Country team is ranked first in the USTFCCCA West Region for the first time in program history, the association announced Monday morning. The team's performance at the Nuttycombe Invitational this past weekend elevated their ranking by three spots from last week.
Solomon Kipchoge's second place finish and
Evans Kurui's fifth place finish highlighted the men's team showing at the Nuttycombe.
Josphat Meli also helped the Cougs, finishing inside of the top 30 with an impressive time of 23 minutes and 44.3 seconds. The team's sixth overall finish was oustanding in a field with 18 of the top 30 schools in the country competing.
The women's team is ranked fourth in the West Region, tied for the highest they have been ranked this season.
The Cougs will compete next at the WCC Championships in Spokane, Washington, on November 1.
