PULLMAN, Wash. (Aug. 23, 2024) – Washington State Women's Rowing Head Coach Jane Lariviere has announced the addition of two new members to the program's coaching staff for the 2024-25 season.
David Osborne comes to the Palouse from Boston College to be the new Assistant Coach for the Cougs, while
Ainsley Tiernan will stay in Pullman after competing as a member of the WSU rowing team from 2020-24, to now serve as an Assistant Coach.

Osborne joins the Cougars from Boston College and the prestigious Institute of Rowing Leadership at the Community Rowing Inc. The IRL fellowship accepts five fellows each year.
"Dave's enthusiasm for rowing and his commitment to becoming the best coach he can be really stood out during the interview process," said LaRiviere. "Our team will benefit from Dave's dedication to developing fast rowers and good people."
While completing his fellowship, Osborne worked as a volunteer assistant at Boston College where he worked primarily with the coxswains, as well as the third and fourth varsity 8+. Most recently Osborne worked as the lead coxswain coach and assistant rowing coach for the Ready Set Row Elite boy's summer program. Osborne has also coached a multitude of learn to row programs, as well as high school competitive programs.
A 2022 graduate of St. Lawrence University, Osborne was a decorated coxswain, coxing the St. Lawrence men's team to program-best conference and Head of the Charles finishes.
Ainsley Tiernan
Tiernan joins WSU as an Assistant Coach and Director of Operations after previously rowing with the Cougs from 2020-24.
"We are excited that Ainsley has agreed to lead our Novice and the development squad," LaRiviere said. "Ainsley was a 4-year Varsity 8 coxswain at WSU. She is a great teacher and is passionate about rowing. The young Cougs are in great hands!"
In her time as a coxswain with the Cougar women's rowing program, she was a three-time CRCA Scholar-Athlete and was four times named to the President's Honor Roll. Tiernan also earned the Distinguished Cougar Award, was a member of the WSU Rowing Leadership Counsel, was a 2023-24 SAAC member, and was the 2023 WSU Rowing Team MVP.
Tiernan has also volunteered her time coxing for various groups, including a learn-to-row program for previously incarcerated women, and boats ranging from young adult to senior citizens.
