PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State men's track and field multi athlete
Mason Mahacek, a fifth-year grad transfer from Michigan and a 2024 Indoor All-American, will make his decathlon debut wearing Crimson and Gray at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif, this Wednesday and Thursday as he competes at the 2024 Mt SAC Relays.
The lone Washington State competitor, Mahacek will take on a competitive Mt SAC Relays field as he looks to follow up his 2024 indoor nationals appearance with a push for the 2024 outdoor Pac-12 and NCAA Championships, respectively.
Mahacek is coming off of a personal-best 41.47m toss in the men's discus open competition at the UCLA Legends Invitational this past Saturday. On the Cougars' 2023-24 indoor circuit, Mahacek set the all-time men's program record with 5,762 points in the NM Collegiate Open heptathlon, a mark that earned him a spot at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Boston.
In his first full decathlon on the 2024 season, Mahacek will look to join his teammate
Lee Walburn, who currently owns the fifth-best score in the nation of 7,694 points which he set at the Texas Relays back in March. Walburn is also the Pac-12's leader heading into the weekend by over 350 points.
