Cougars to compete at Whitworth Twilight followed by three-meet stay in California

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State women's and men's track and field programs get set to split its squads once again this weekend with the majority of the Cougars' roster set to travel to California where the 2024 Bryan Clay Invitational (April 11-13) highlights a trio of weekend college meets.  The Cougars will also compete in Thursday's Whitworth Twilight (April 11) back in Spokane, Wash., while the LBSU Beach Invite (April 12-13) and UCLA Invitational (April 13) close out the weekend along with the Bryan Clay from Southern California.

Top Ranked Cougs - Week 3
Maribel Caicedo clocked a wind-legal 12.93 in the 100m hurdles, setting a Washington State women's program record at the Stanford Invitational with a time that stands as the top time in the Pac-12 this season and the fifth-best time in the nation.  Her 100m hurdles counterpart, Micaela De Mello, placed second at Stanford with a season-best 13.27, the sixth-best time in the Pac-12.

Lee Walburn was the lone Cougar to make the trip to this year's Texas Relays where he set a men's program record in the decathlon, tallying PR's in half of the events to finish with 7,694 points which ranks second in the country and first in the Pac-12.

Last Time Out - Whitworth Peace Meet
Jared McAlvey clocked one of the top-15 400m hurdles times in the nation with a season-best 50.86 (second-fastest in the Pac-12 this season) to earn one of eight combined wins for the Washington State men's and women's track and field teams last week at the one-day Whitworth Peace Meet from Boppell Track and Whitworth Pine Bowl.

Ashley Hollenbeck ran a personal-best time to win the women's 100m dash in 12.23 and later placed second in the women's 200m dash with a season-best 25.35.  Ethan Willems won the men's 200m dash with a personal-best time of 21.49, and Pietra Ornelas later captured a win in the women's 800m in a lifetime-best 2:13.12.  Lucas Tailin placed runner-up in the men's pole vault competition after cleaning a season-best height of 4.93m, the fifth-best mark in the Pac-12 this season, and Caden Hottman caputured the win in the men's hammer throw with a personal-best 61.46m throw in one of the final events of the afternoon.

Next Up:
Washington State will stay on the Palouse next weekend as it gets set to host the 2024 Cougar Classic, the first home track meet in almost two full years on Saturday, April 20, at Mooberry Track.  The Cougar Classic will feature mostly competition from other Pacific Northwest schools, and represents the penultimate pre-championship meet for WSU before making the trip to the 2024 Pac-12 Championships (May 10-12) in Boulder, Colo.
