FRESNO, Calif. (March 26, 2024) – Washington State women's golf wrapped up at the Fresno State Classic in sixth place among the 21-team field, at 22-over, 886 at the par-72 Copper River Country Club.

"We are getting closer to our Conference Championship and we are pleased to see scores and performances come together at this time in the spring season," said Head Coach Sofie Aagard. "This course suited our team well where we had a strong focus in our preparation and practice for the tournament on putting. The greens were rolling well and we could see that our speed and read training resulted in more putts made and better lag putting."

As a team, the Cougars shot below a 300 in all three rounds with a 294 (+6) in round one, and a 296 (+8) in both the second and third rounds.

"Madelyn Gamble continued her steady play with a T-11 finish in Fresno and freshman Alice Johansson wasn't far behind with a T-19 finish," added Aagard. "We had some long days on the course as the field was large with 21 teams and the round times therefore longer than usual. We will have the next ten days to recover and then prepare for our last regular season event in Phoenix before conference at home in April."

Gamble finished round two at 3-over, 75 before an even 72 in round three to finish tied for 11th in the 116 player field with a 3-round score of 3-over, 219. In round two she scattered five bogeys and a pair of birdies, before collecting three birdies in round three, including two in her final four holes of the event.

Freshman Alice Johansson ended the tournament in a tie for 19th at 4-over, 220. In round two she birdied her first hole before adding two more on the back nine between a couple of bogeys to sit 1-under after 10 holes, but a double-bogey, a bogey and a birdie over her final five holes led her to a 1-over, 73 in round two. She went 2-over, 74 in round three, and after an inconsistent back-nine, she recorded three birdies over her final seven holes of the tournament.

Junior Sarah Skovgaard-Bils finished tied for 29th at 6-over, 222 after an excellent second round where she finished 2-under, 70. After two birdies and four bogeys put her at 2-over through her first 10 holes, she rattled off four birdies over her last eight holes to move to 2-under for the round. In round three, she parred 12 holes and bogeyed five along with a double bogey to go 7-over, 79.

Junior Emily Cadwell ended in a tie for 72nd at 14-over, 230. She went 8-over with a score of 80 in round two with a birdie on hole two in between seven bogeys and a double bogey. Cadwell picked it up in round three, using a birdie on hole one to stay even midway through the round before three more birdies and three bogeys on the front nine put her at 2-over, 74 for the round.

Sophomore Hannah Harrison wrapped up the Fresno State Classic tied for 79th at 16-over, 232. She scattered 12 pars and six birdies in round two to finish 8-over, 80. She added six more birdied in round three, but mixed in birdies on the 12th and 14th holes to go 4-over, 76 in the final round.

The Cougars have one more event this season before hosting the 2024 Pac-12 Championship, heading to the Bobcat Desert Classic in Goodyear, Arizona on April 8-10.
