Myles Rice Earns Third-Straight Pac-12 Freshman of the Week

| By:
PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State men's basketball redshirt-freshman Myles Rice was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the third-consecutive week and sixth time this year, the Pac-12 Conference announced Monday. Rice became the first freshman in WSU history to earn three-straight weekly honors, and just the third in Pac-12 history. The Columbia, S.C. native is now the most decorated freshman in program history, surpassing current Atlanta Hawks rookie Mouhamed Gueye who picked up five Conference nods in 2021-22.

Rice led the Cougs to a road sweep of Oregon State and Oregon for the first time since 2008-09, scoring 21 points with a career-high nine rebounds in the win over Oregon, Saturday. Against the Beavers, Rice dominated ball control with six assists and four rebounds.

Rice is currently averaging a team-high 15.6 points per game and has scored in double figures in 10 of his last 11 games. Rice is currently three points back from Klay Thompson's freshman scoring mark, which places the current South Carolina freshman fourth in WSU freshman scoring history.

In earning his third-consecutive weekly recognition, Rice became the first Coug since the award's inception in 2019-20, to garner the award three-times in a row and the first since Harrison Ingram 3-peated from Dec. 13 to Dec. 27, 2021. He is currently second in Conference history in weekly freshman accolades, behind Evan Mobley's seven Freshman of the Week awards during the 2020-21 season.

On pace to break the WSU freshman single-season steals record, Rice leads Wazzu with 39 steals, averaging 1.63 steals per game, fifth overall in the Pac-12 and top by a freshman. The Columbia, S.C., native is re-writing several WSU freshman records, including a 15.6 points per game average, which would be second-best all-time by a Coug freshman if the season ended today.

Rice also averages 3.75 assists per game, dishing out more assists than any other freshman in the Pac-12. Seven times in Pac-12 play, Rice has dished out five or more assists.

Washington State returns to the Palouse to host California, Thursday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. inside Beasley Coliseum.
