KICKOFF NOTES
Wazzu makes the short trip north to Spokane to face Gonzaga Saturday night at Luger Field. The Cougs and Zags are scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. with coverage on ESPN+.

The Cougs and Bulldogs have met 26 times in program history, but have not played since 2019 in Spokane, a 1-0 win in overtime, with current Coug Grayson Lynch playing 33 minutes off the bench as a freshman. The series history dates back to the beginning of the Title IX era and a lopsided 24-1-1 record in favor of the Cougs. Gonzaga got its first win against Wazzu in 2016 and the sides are 1-1-1 since Head Coach Todd Shulenberger took the helm in Pullman.

Last time on the pitch the Cougs maintained their unbeaten record at home, tying Portland 1-1 at Lower Soccer Field, Saturday, Oct. 12. The Pilots scored a wild ricochet goal off a clearance in the first half, before Kendall Campbell scored the Cougs' latest goal of the season, netting a golazo equalizer in the 85th minute to take the spot at WSU's leading goal scorer this season.

Grayson Lynch played in her 92nd career Cougar match, Saturday night, tied with former teammate Mykiaa Minniss at third in Coug history (excluding GKs). With her next appearance, the sixth-year senior will move into a second-place tie with former teammate Elyse Bennett at 93 career WSU games. If Lynch plays all the remaining regular season matches, she will sit second in all-time WSU matches played with 97 behind Sydney Pulver (98).

Cooper eclipsed 6,000 career minutes in goal during Saturday's match. The senior is currently fourth in WSU career goalkeeping minutes and on pace to surpass third in GK history this season.

Lynch's 5th-minute goal against Saint Mary's marked her eighth career game-winning goal, as she moved into a 4th-place tie in Cougar history. The Colorado senior will need five more game-winners to reach a 3rd-place tie in WSU career history.

Controlling the region for over three decades, the Cougs have dominated their regional rivals (Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, and Idaho) going a combined 46-2-1 while outscoring the trio 175-to-20. The majority of those games have come against the Bulldogs where the Cougs are 24-1-1 all-time with a 105-to-9 goal advantage (spurred on by early 1990s offense that included the two highest scoring games in program history 15-0 (Oct. 30, 1991) and 13-0 (Sept. 15, 1990).

In Wednesday's shutout win over Saint Mary's, Nadia Cooper earned her 19th career shutout and 31st career win. A two-time WCC Defensive Player of the Week, Cooper is third in Cougar history for GK wins and fourth in WSU career shutouts.

On the horizon, the Cougars will travel for a midweek contest at nationally-ranked Santa Clara, Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. PT on ESPN+.

True freshman Kendall Campbell scored the Cougs latest goal of the season, the equalizer in the 85th minute to draw Portland Saturday night. The goal marked Campbell's third of the season, leading the team.

Match Milestones: In the last match, Grayson Lynch played in her 92nd career match, tying Mykiaa Minniss in career matches played, and third in Cougar history. In the next match appearance, Lynch will move to tied with Elyse Bennett at 93 career Coug appearances. Raniyah Burton reached 70 career matches played (11 at WSU). Jenna Studer started her 50th career game (32 at WSU). With her next start, Lindsey Turner will make her 60th career start (44 at WSU).

Grayson Lynch has taken 159 career shots as a Coug, moving into 10th in career shot attempts at WSU. The Colorado sixth-year senior has scored 19 career goals and surpassed Brandi Vegas at 156 shots attempts. Lynch needs 17 additional shots to reach Carly Dobratz at ninth and 176 shots as a Coug.

Nadia Cooper surpassed 200 career saves in the Oct. 5 match at LMU, becoming just the sixth goalkeeper in program history to reach the milestone. Cooper is currently sixth in school history with 206 total saves, and 42 saves from entering WSU's all-time top-5 in career saves.

The Pac-12 Conference formally introduced Gonzaga University as the eighth member of its 2026-27 expansion plans, last Tuesday morning, joining Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, and Utah State. Wazzu and Oregon State are currently operating as members of the Pac-12 Conference as part of a NCAA two-year grace period and will continue to do so for the 2025-26 academic season before the six new members officially join, July 1, 2026.

Watts, a Georgia native, served an aerial through ball into the Eagles' defensive area for Lindsey Turner to head home for the game-winner, giving Watts a homecoming memory and the game-winning assist in front of friends and family.

True freshman Kendall Campbell made her first college start at No. 2 Stanford. The California native has started three games and has played in every match. Campbell scored her first collegiate goal against Montana, netting the second goal in a 3-0 win in the home opener.
