SEATTLE — Zenah Cheptoo followed her record-setting performance in her debut with a Washington State women's track and field program record in the 3,000-meter run at 9:12.18, finishing third overall in the event on the first night of the two-day UW Invitational at Dempsey Indoor.
Micaela De Mello led the day off for Washington State on the track with a first-place finish in the women's 60-meter hurdles, her second win of the indoor season, after posting times of 8.36 and 8.32 in prelims and finals, respectively.
On the men's side,
Brian Barsaiya (8:09.47) and
Kelvin Limo (8:16.55) each reached lifetime-bests in the men's 3,000-meter run, as Barsaiya's time proved enough to win the penultimate heat in the men's 3,000m field.
On the Dempsey Indoor infield,
Gavin Dimick reached a new PR (4.87M) in the men's pole vault while fellow freshman
Antoni Smith also reached a lifetime-best after clearing 1.90m in the men's high jump. His high jump teammate
A.J. McGloflin followed up his first-career win last week with a runner-up finish Friday after clearing 2.00m on only one attempt.
Washington State will return to action in the second day of the UW Invitational Saturday, while a separate group of athletes also get set to compete in Saturday's Inland NW Invitational from The Podium in Spokane, Wash.
