PULLMAN, Wash. —
Washington State men's and women's track and field teams get set for the championship stretch of the 2023 outdoor season as the top student-athletes travel to Walnut, Calif., this weekend for the 2023 Pac-12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Pac-12 Championships, which begins Friday and runs through Sunday afternoon, will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Networks.

COUGS TO WATCH - WOMEN
>> Sophomore hurdler
Micaela De Mello was named 2022 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year after placing second in the 100-meter hurdles (13.03) at last year's Pac-12 Championships.
De Mello, the WSU program record holder in the event, ranks eighth in the Pac-12 going into the weekend after posting a 13.42 to win the event at the Fresno State Invite.

Jada Van Staden (59.97) will each carry sub-1-minute times in the women's 400-meter hurdles into this year's championships.

Skyler Walton (11.55, ninth in the Pac) and
Elise Unruh-Thomas (11.57, 12th in the Pac) each rank in the top-10 all-time at WSU.

Caroline Jerotich clocked the second-fastest time in program history (10:14.15) at the Oregon State High Performance Meet and ranks sixth in the conference heading into the Pac-12 Championships.

Luceris Suarez Pacheco who ranks seventh in the Pac-12 this season.

Nana Gyedu ranks 10th in the shot put after posting a mark of 15.63, second all-time at WSU, at the Mt SAC Relays.

Alex Payne owns a season-best mark of 57.01m in the hammer throw which ranks 10th in the Pac and leads a trio of Cougars that rank in the top-15 in the conference heading into the Pac-12 Championships.

Anna Rodgers finished sixth at last year's Pac-12 Championships and owns a season-best mark of 6.08m which ranks 12th in the conference heading into the weekend.

Lee Walburn, making his Pac-12 Championships debut after transferring to WSU this semester, sits third in the Pac-12 in the decathlon after 7,323 pts at the Texas Relays.

Jared McAlvey earned his first-career Pac-12 Men's Track Athlete of the Week earlier this season and later moved into a tie for seventh all-time at WSU with a personal-best 50.24 to win the event at the Fresno State Invite.

Louie Hinchliffe (100m dash) and
Mason Lawyer (200m dash) each ranking in the top-10 in the Pac heading into the meet.

Hinchliffe ran a WSU freshman-record 10.22, the fourth-fastest time in the Pac, at the Mt SAC Relays while
Lawyer clocked a wind-aided 20.88 at the Fresno State Invitational which ranks ninth in the converence heading into the weekend. The first-year duo also ran the final two legs of the Cougs' 4X100m relay team that ranks seventh in the Pac heading into this year's conference meet.

Zach Stallings heads into the week with the seventh-best 5,000m time (13:47.57) after setting a lifetime best earlier this season at the Stanford Invitational.
>> Still a few seconds off of his personal-best pace,
Stallings ran a 3:41.46 in the men's 1500m at the Bryan Clay which ranks eighth in the Pac.
>> In the jumping pits for the Cougs, the pair of
Daylon Hicks (2.05m, sixth-place) and Taino Ferdinand (2.02m, eighth-place) each sit in the top ten of the Pac-12 men's high jump standings going into the weekend.
>> With four career collegiate wins in the men's shot put on his resume,
Ronald Grueso Mosquera ranks fifth in the Pac-12 with a season-best mark of 19.16m as he looks to improve on an eighth-place finish at the 2022 Pac-12 Championships.

Josh Farr ranks sixth in the Pac-12 heading into the weekend with a mark of 64.21m from the Mt SAC Relays.

The Cougars' 2023 outdoor season will continue with the 2023 NCAA West Preliminary Round on May 24-27 in Sacramento, Calif. The top 48 declared student-athletes in each event will be accepted into the West Preliminary Round in addition to the top 24 declared relay teams.
Multi events will not be contested at the NCAA First Round sites. For combined events (heptathlon and decathlon), the top 24 declared student-athletes in the national descending-order list will be accepted directly into the NCAA Championships.
