Habgood earns NCAA Regional individual selection for Palouse Ridge

| By:

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State women's golf fifth-year senior Darcy Habgood will play in a 2023 NCAA Women's Golf Regional as an individual, as Habgood earned a selection into the NCAA Pullman Regional, which will take place May 8-10 at Palouse Ridge Golf Club.

Habgood becomes the fifth WSU women's golfer in program history to earn an individual selection for an NCAA Regional. Habgood is the first Cougar to play in an NCAA Regional since 2018 when Alivia Brown played in the San Francisco Regional. Habgood joins Brown, Tasha Browner (2001), Eryn Remington (1994), and Becky Fossum as the only WSU women's golfers to play at the NCAA Regionals as an individual.

"It's pretty freaking cool and the fact that it's at Palouse Ridge is a real full circle moment for me," said Habgood. "I'm so excited to get there and try my best and see what I can do. There are advantages to playing at Palouse Ridge. I do know this course pretty well, so I think it will be nice to have some familiarity with the course."

The Nambucca Heads, Australia native is utilizing her year of NCAA eligibility relief this season and led the Cougars with a scoring average of 74.13, which is the 11-best season scoring average in program history. The Nambucca Head, Australia native collected six top-15 finishes this season, which includes a pair of top-five finishes, and she carded six under par rounds. Habgood becomes the first WSU women's golfer to pick up All-Pac-12 honors since Alivia Brown also earned an All-Pac-12 honorable mention selection during the 2017-18 season.

"We are so proud of Darcy and the season of competition she put together to earn her a spot in postseason at the NCAA Pullman Regional," said WSU Women's Golf Head Coach Sofie Aagaard. "Not only a postseason showing we also get to have her compete here at home where she is familiar with the course and will have great support from the community. Palouse Ridge will be a great site for the teams and individuals competing for the coveted spots at the NCAA National Championship. With the challenging green complexes and hilly fairways, Darcy has the advantage of knowing the course so well after her five years with us. The familiarity with the greens will be her biggest advantage and of course, to get to stay home and not travel for the week."

The fifth-year senior shot a season-best 4-under 68 in the first round of the GOLFWEEK Red Sky Classic back on Sept. 26. Habgood's best 54-hole score of the season also came at the Red Sky Classic, as she carded 3-under 213 to finish the tournament in a tie for fourth. The Australian native also finished in a tie for fourth at the San Diego Classic to open the spring. Earlier this season, Habgood became the first WSU women's golfer to earn an All-Pac-12 distinction since Brown in 2017-18, as she was named All-Pac-12 honorable mention.

The 2023 NCAA Pullman Regional will be held May 8-10 at Palouse Ridge Golf Course in Pullman, Washington. WSU is one of six schools to host a regional site this year. Teams coming to Palouse Ridge for the 2023 NCAA Pullman Regional will be Stanford, Baylor, Southern California, Clemson, Kentucky, Texas Tech, Houston, North Carolina, UNLV, Sacramento State, Cal Poly, and Green Day. Attendance for each day of the 2023 NCAA Pullman Regional is free. Check back with WSUCougars.com for tee times and more information on the NCAA Regional.
