| By:

SAN DIEGO – The Washington State women's rowing team opens its 2023 spring season this weekend at one of the nation's top regattas, as the Cougars will be competing in the 50th San Diego Crew Classic. The two-day regatta will take place April 1-2 at Mission Bay in San Diego.

Regatta Format
The collegiate portion of the San Diego Crew Classic will be held April 1-2 at Mission Bay. The heats will take place Saturday to determine a spot in Sunday's finals. The top three crews in the 1V8+ and the 3V8+ races will advance to the A final on Sunday, while the remaining crews from those races will race in the B final. The top four crews in the 2V8+ and V4+ heats will move onto Sunday's A finals, with the rest of the teams will head to the B finals.

The Field
The San Diego Crew Classic brings some of the top crews in the NCAA to Mission Bay. The regatta will feature four of the top six teams from last season's NCAA Rowing Championship, including two-time national champion Texas. Along with the Longhorns, the regatta will feature Washington State, Stanford, Washington, California, USC, San Diego, UC San Diego, LMU, MIT, Santa Clara, and Notre Dame. Oxford and the Canadian National Rowing Team will also be in attendance and are scheduled to race against NCAA Division I crews.

WSU Rowing Head Coach Jane LaRiviere on the San Diego Crew Classic
"We really can't wait. It's been a number of years since we've been to San Diego. I think the team is ready to go and I can tell they are excited and that is fun to be around. We're going to go race the best of the best, four of the top six finishers at last year's NCAA Championship will be there."
