TEMPE, Ariz/ Spokane, Wash -- The men's and women's track and field teams shone brightly in their outdoor season debut Friday and Saturday at both the GCU Invitational and Sam Adams Classic. The women's 4x100 relay team produced the third fastest time in program history.
Jasneet Nijjar also reshuffled the record books as she finished in first while running the fourth-fastest 400m time in program history.
The Cougars won 15 events set 16 PRs and saw 35 podium finishes as the cougar wrapped up competition at the GCU Invitational and Sam Adams Classic on Saturday.

Throws Recap
The women's hammer group opened the meet with three top five finishes on Friday. Every cougar who competed advanced to finals and were led by
Tara Koonce (54.07m),
Amy Kraemer (50.98m), and
Alex Payne (50.90m) who each finished in the top-five.
Nana Gyedu (14.99) and
Ronald Grueso Mosqquera (18.18m) each took first-place in the women's and men's shot put events. Grueso Mosqquera won with a meet record (59ft, 7.75in) on his very throw of the day in the shot after finishing runner-up in the discus (50.65m), just ahead of teammate Max Moore who also hit the discus podium with a mark of 50.65m on his sixth and final throw of the afternoon.
In her Cougar debut,
Luceris Suarez Pacheco shattered the previous GCU Invitational meet record to take second in the javelin after a toss of 48.56m (159", 04') on first finals attempt, her fourth throw of the day overall.
Maelyn George (39.86m) rounded out the top five of the women's javelin while
Josh Farr (63.08m) placed fourth on the men's side.
Jumps Recap
In the jumping pits,
Anna Rodgers cleared 5.74m to pick up her first win of the season and eighth of her career in the long jump while
Kolby Weiss (3.77m) claimed third place in the women's pole vault. For the men,
Daylon Hicks cleared 2.02m on his second attempt and finished runner-up in the high jump.
Track Recap
On the track, the women's 4x100 team brought home the gold, finishing first with a meet record at 44.70, a time that also ranks as the third-fastest time in WSU history.
Jasneet Nijjar won the 400m in 53.87, a personal-best and the fourth-fastest time in WSU history. The women's 4x400 team (3:50.95) also sprinted to a first-place finish and the meet record.
The Cougar's owned the podium on the 100m after
Skyler Walton (11.73) and
Elise Unruh-Thomas (11.91) finished first and second, respectively.
Mackenzie Fletcher joined the winning ways for the Cougars as the senior won the women's 400m hurdles at 1:01.10 while
Jared McAlvey (50.90) broke the GCU Invitational meet record in the men's 400m hurdles, also finishing in first.
Parker Duskin (14.56) started his season well with a second-place finish in 110m hurdles.
Zach Stallings (1:51.53) and
Evan Gonzalez (1:51.91) saw a photo finish in the men's 800m, finishing first and second, respectively, in the event.
Cristina Molteni (4:26.12),
Alaina Stone Boggs (4:26.59), and
Neema Kimtai (4:27.63) crossed the finish line within one second of each other in the women's 1500m to sweep the event in first through third, respectively.
Caroline Jerotich jumped out ahead during the first steeplechase of the outdoor season and built on her lead position throughout to win the event by nearly one full minute at 10:51.03.
Sam Adams Classic Recap
Laura Lindquist was crowned champion of the Sam Adams Classic in the javelin, outthrowing the nearest thrower by nine feet with a personal-best mark of 44.29m for her first-career win. Lindquist also launched a personal best mark in the women's hammer throw to take second
Freshman
Caden Hottman won the men's discus (44.96m) for his first colligate win. Hottman won the event on his first throw of the day and later placed second in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.77m.
Freshman
Justin Sands also tallied his first-career win in the men's long jump (6.74m) while teammate
Matthew Metcalf (6.38m) claimed fourth in the event.

The Cougars will return to the Pacific Northwest next weekend, March 23-34, to compete in the Buc Scoring Invite in Spokane, Wash., at Puryear Field/ Boppell Track at Whitworth Pine Bowl.
