THIS WEEK: After not playing last weekend, the Washington State Tennis team (7-6, 0-2 Pac-12) resumes its Pac-12 schedule by schedule by hosting the Arizona schools. The Cougars face No. 57 Arizona Friday, March 17, at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 19, the Cougars will host No. 29 Arizona State at 11 a.m. The Arizona match is scheduled to be played at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts while the ASU contest will be played at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
 
SCOUTING ARIZONA: Arizona enters the week with a 13-6 record this season, 0-1 in Pac-12 play with a No. 57 national ranking. The Wildcats enter the weekend having won their last three matches, including a back-to-back 4-0 victories over No. 35 Illinois and New Mexico State in their last two outings. The Wildcats own a 21-7 all-time record against WSU, though the Cougars won the last meeting in Pullman, 4-2, during the 2021 season.
 
SCOUTING ASU: The Sun Devils bring a No. 29 national ranking into the weekend, along with an 11-2 record, 1-0 in Pac-12 play, into the week as they begin play Friday at Washington before traveling to Pullman for Sunday's matchup. ASU enters the week on the three-match winning streak, which includes a 4-0 victory over current No. 47 Oregon in its conference opener. The Sun Devils have two singles players and one doubles team ranked, with the duo of Patricija Spaka and Domenika Turkovic coming in at No. 11. ASU leads the all-time series, 27-1.
 
LAST TIME OUT: WSU lost a 5-2 contest against No. 63 UCLA, with freshman Yura Nakagawa posting a 6-3, 6-4 victory over UCLA's Ava Catanzarite, ranked No. 64.
 
NEXT UP: Washington State concludes its 2023 home schedule by hosting No. 47 Oregon at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts. It will mark the final home match for senior Yang Lee. Match time is set for Noon.
 
NET NOTES:

• Freshman Eva Alvarez Sande registered the biggest win over her young career against USC, defeating Eryn Cayatano, ranked No. 24 nationally, in three sets
• Another freshman, Yura Nakagawa, posted a ranked win over UCLA, defeating No. 64 Ava Catanzarite in straight sets.

 
ROSTER BREAKDOWN: For the 2022-23 season the Cougars will have three new players to accompany the six returners. The returning roster consists of fifth-year senior Yang Lee, junior Fifa Kumhom and sophomores Hania Abouelsaad, Stefaniia Mikhailova, Maxine Murphy and Elyse Tse. Joining the Cougar tennis program this year are freshmen Eva Alvarez Sande, Yura Nakagawa and Tiffany Phout.
 
COACH RAQUEL ATAWO: Raquel Atawo is in her second season as head coach of the Cougars after being named to the position July 2, 2021. In Atawo's first year leading Washington State Tennis, the Cougars showed great improvement throughout the season, finishing with a, 8-15 record, but posted back-to-back wins late in the season over nationally-ranked Washington. Atawo arrived in Pullman having spent the 2021 season as the assistant coach at Auburn and prior to that, spent 15 years on the WTA Tour, where she reached a No. 10 world ranking in doubles.
