Cougar Basketball Inks Australian Star Alice Dart

PULLMAN, Wash. (November 9, 2023) – Washington State Women's Basketball signed Australian guard Alice Dart to National Letter of Intent, Head Coach Kamie Ethridge announced Thursday.

Dart, a 5-10 guard from Brisbane, Queensland in Australia, plays for the Southern District Spartans in a semiprofessional league run by the Australia National Basketball League. This past season, Dart played in 16 games, nine as a starter, averaged nearly ten points-per-game, two rebounds-per-game, scored in double figures eight times including a 20-point game and 26-point effort while being the second-youngest player in the NBL1 League.

"It is an exciting day to announce our newest addition to our basketball team, Alice Dart," Ethridge said. "Alice is a tremendous basketball player. We have known over the course of the past four years that we must replace the uniqueness and versatility Charlisse Leger-Walker and Alice brings some of the same tangibles and three-level scoring that Charlisse has excelled at throughout her career. Alice is a strong and physical combo guard who is a savage competitor that attacks the rim with authority. She can play three positions for our team, her basketball IQ, three-point shooting and decision making off the dribble is exactly what we need to sign in this class. Alice demonstrates Coug values through and through, she is tough, relentless, all about winning and it is with extreme confidence I can say that Alice Dart is a perfect fit for our Washington State Women's Basketball program on the court and in the classroom. Let's Go Coug Nation, help us welcome Alice Dart!"

Dart also played for the National Performance Program that is run by Basketball Australia to identify state-base athletes who have potential to represent Team Australia. Dart was selected to the Queensland State Teams in 2021 (top age 16U), 2022 (bottom age 18U) and 2023 (top age 18U). Dart was named a team captain in 2021and 2023, helping the state team to a National Championship in 2021, the silver medal in 2022 and bronze in 2023 while averaging 11 ppg this past tournament.

For the Southern District Spartans (18U-14U) in the Queensland State League, Dart was named the 2021-22 MVP after averaging 24.8 ppg, led the league in scoring at 27.0 ppg in 2022-23 highlighted by a 43-point game. At the 2023 State Championships, Dart was named the MVP, was second in the league averaging 27 ppg and scored over 30 twice. In the most recent Queensland State League season, Dart again earned MVP honors after averaging 18.6 ppg.

Dart graduated from Moreton Bay College where she was the three-time Player of the Year, was named the MVP of the CBSQ Opens (2021-23) and QG Opens (2021-23).
