PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State women's soccer senior
Margie Detrizio, freshman
Reagan Kotschau, and freshman
Megan Santa Cruz each earned All-Pac-12 Conference postseason recognition, the Pac-12 Conference announced Tuesday. Detrizio was named to the All-Pac-12 Third Team, while Kotschau and Santa Cruz were tabbed to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team.
WSU placed at least three Cougs on the All-Conference teams for the third-straight season. With Kotschau and Santa Cruz both named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team, the Cougars placed a pair of freshmen on the Team for the third time in program history and first under Coach
Todd Shulenberger. It marks the first time with a duo of Cougs on the freshman team since 2011 when Jocelyn Jeffers and Nicole Setterlund earned all-freshmen nods.
Detrizio headlined the Cougar attack with a team-leading eight goals and five assists. The Chandler, Arizona native started every match this year and finished with 21 total points. With her output during the 2023 season, Detrizio rocketed up the WSU record books with 26 career goals (tied for sixth in Wazzu history), 16 career assists (tied for fifth in program history), and 68 total career points (6th). Detrizio also holds the program's fifth-best spot with 234 career shots.
With her selection to the All-Pac-12 Third Team, Detrizio earned her second career All-Pac-12 postseason honor, following a Second Team selection last fall. Detrizio was also tabbed on the Preseason All-Pac-12 Team, the only student-athlete outside the four California programs to garner the selection.
Kotschau arrived at WSU with an immediate impact, scoring the game-winning goal in the Cougars' season-opening win over Eastern Washington. The true freshman started every match this year, playing in the attacking midfield, while distributing two assists and playing a full 90 in 10 matches. The Colorado native also scored the Cougs' game-winner at Texas A&M, calmly finishing a penalty for WSU's win in College Station, Texas.
Kotschau scored in back to back Conference games, delivering the equalizer against Utah on Senior Day before following up with a first-half equalizer at Oregon State on a golazo blast from outside the area. She earned her first-career assist Aug. 31, delivering an in-swinging corner kick for the opening goal in a 2-1 win over San Diego State.
Santa Cruz made her career debut in the season-opener and played in every match this year, recently surpassing 1,000 minutes on the pitch. The SoCal freshman netted her first collegiate goal, the game-winner, less than five minutes into the contest against San Diego State.
A creator at the top of the box, Santa Cruz delivered her first career assist to
Margie Detrizio in a come-from-behind win at Arizona. Santa Cruz added a second assist in a draw at Oregon State, setting up the shot for an early equalizer to fellow freshman Kotschau.
