Following an emotional pregame Senior Night ceremony, UCLA jumped in front early with a 9-2 run to begin the match. Washington State later went on a 5-0 run to get back within three, and were within two at 22-20, before the Bruins closed on a 3-0 run to steal the first.
Iman Isanovic had a strong first two sets in the match, leading the team with five kills during a second set that also saw the Cougs even the match with the help of five team blocks in the second. Isanovic then tallied her fifth kill of the set, and followed with a block assist alongside
Shea Rubright, to give the Cougars a 26-24 second-set win.
The third set was deadlocked at 16-16 when the Bruins reeled off seven-straight points to take a 23-16 lead. The Bruins answered back with five blocks of their own in the third and put the Cougs on the back foot once again after a 25-18 third-set win.
Both sides battled adversity late in the fourth set, with
Pia Timmer giving the Cougs the first set point on a big kill off of an overpass that put WSU ahead, 24-23. UCLA's Iman Ndiaye answered with back-to-back solo blocks to give the Bruins a look at set point, but Washington State closed out the fourth after hitting .333 with 16 kills as a team. UCLA went on a 4-1 run after trailing 8-2 at the change over, and faced WSU match points with the Cougars ahead, 14-12, following a Bruins' bad set. Three-straight UCLA kills gave the Bruins a look at match point, which Ung held off with her second kill on the night, but UCLA ultimatley followed a WSU attack error with Ndiaye's 21st kill of the night to steal the upset.
