BERKELEY, Calif. (October 27, 2023) – Washington State Swimming posted a pair of Top-10 times and sophomore
Dori Hathazi recorded her third win of the season in the dual meet at No. 11 California Friday afternoon. The Cougars dropped the contest 179-81.
Â
"We stepped up and we raced well on the road against a really good Cal team. I think we would like to have some faster times in a couple events but we were excited to post a couple Top-10 times and get an individual win against one of the national powerhouse programs," Head Coach
Matt Leach said. "Mira was great in the distance free events today, one of our freshmen Madison Park had another really good day so we left this meet feeling we have continued to improve in each event while we are in our hardest training time. Dori stepped up and gave us a big win in the 200 fly and she will be ranked among the best flyers in the country after this weekend. I liked how we competed today, I think as a group we are swimming faster and faster, and we are excited to get back in the pool and compete against a tenth-ranked Stanford team tomorrow."

Freshman
Mira Szimcsak got things going with an impressive swim in the 1000 free, finishing third with a 10:10.77, the seventh-fastest time in program history. Freshman
Hannah Huarte finished fourth in the same race to pick up two points for the Cougars.
Â
Sophomore
Anna Rauchholz and freshman
Ariel Wang produced solid times in the 100 back, finishing second and third, respectively. Hathazi tallied a win in the 200 fly for her ninth career victory before freshman
Madison Parker added a pair of impressive times, finishing third in the 50 free and followed with a second-place finish in the 100 free with a 49.83, the tenth-fastest 100 free time in program history.
Â
Senior
Kiana Swain continued her strong start to the season, finishing second in the 200 back while Szimcsak produced another impressive distance swim, nearly winning the 500 free but finished second, just five-tenths of second back. The Cougars closed the meet with another solid performance in the 400 free relay as the team of Hathazi, Parker,
Emma Wright and
Noelle Harvey finished second.
Â
WSU returns to the pool tomorrow with a dual meet at No. 10 Stanford beginning at Noon.
