CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Washington State women's rowing team concluded competition at the Head of the Charles, Sunday, Oct. 22 in Cambridge, Mass., racing in the Women's Championship Four and Eight events of the historic 3-mile head race.
In the early afternoon, the Cougars launched their varsity four with
Ella Greenslade coxswaining a lineup stroked by
Makayla Tuley (
Tannith Johnson,
Izabela Janecek, Jessica Schneider). The varsity four finished 14th in the elite event, clocking a time of 19:20.819. The Coug four finished ahead of Division-I programs Cornell, Iona, Merrimack, Northeastern, Oklahoma, and Penn.
Later in the afternoon, Washington State varsity eight hit the water in the championship event.
Sydney Wick stroked the racing shell to a 17:13.118 finish against some of the top rowing crews in the world, taking 19th in a race with 34 participants, including the U.S. Rowing crew, Danish national team members, in addition to college teams. The Cougar eight, coxswained by
Ainsley Tiernan, finished ahead of Boston, Duke, Oklahoma, Penn, Princeton B, Southern California, and Syracuse, amongst others (S. Wick,
Eliza Dawson,
Ilaria Macchi,
Amy Patten,
Fiona Elliott,
Siena Snow,
Saskia Steltman,
Jaeve Proberts).
