Salt Lake City, Utah – The Washington State Women's Swim team clinched first place in three races but dropped the conference dual meet on Friday, falling to Utah 156-99 at Ute Natatorium. 
 
Despite sinking to Utah, the Cougars shined in multiple events.
 
In her first clash with the Utes of the season, Noelle Harvey began the afternoon in style by capturing a first-place finish in the 1000 free touching the wall at 10:25.95 and tallying nine points for the Cougs. Harvey grabbed her second win of the night in the 500 free clocking in her fastest time as a Coug at 5:03.96.
 
The 200-fly ensued, and Dori Hathazi clinched a winning time of 2:02.94, capturing 9 points for the Cougs. Hathazi swam her way to a second-place finish in the 100 fly touching the wall at 56.82. 
 
Fellow freshman Emily Lundgren logged a runner-up finish in the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.40. 

Hailey Grotte posted a strong performance in the 200 free with a third-place finish clocking in at 1:53.70. 

"Coming to this meet we were super excited to bring some positive energy and focus on improving from our last Pac-12 dual meet. Today we had a great energy level and some good highlights throughout our meet here against Utah. We've got some work to do between now, Idaho, and the Pac-12 championships but it is a great step up in energy and we're looking forward to getting back to Gibb! Go Cougs!" said Head Coach Matt Leach. 

Washington State returns to the Pool in two weeks to go head-to-head with Idaho in the Battle of the Palouse on Feb. 3, in Pullman, Washington.
