Cougars Record Personal Bests But Fall to Arizona State

Tempe, Ariz. (January 14, 2022) – Washington State Women's Swimming battled Arizona State at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center Saturday morning and finished runner-up in four races but dropped a 206-56 contest.
 
Cougar sophomore Angela Di Palo recorded her fourth second-place finish of the weekend. Di Palo recorded a second-place finish in the 50 free, continued her momentum in the 100 free, and touched the wall second at 57.52. 
 
"During the meet we had people step up to earn lifetime best times! I think that looking at progress over finishes is extremely important," said Head Coach Matt Leach
 
New Zealand native Kiana Swain had an amazing swim, recording a lifetime personal best in the 200 back, touching the wall third clocking in at 2:38.23. Senior Jewel Springer had a powerful swim earning her personal best in the 200 IM and touched the wall third, earning the Cougars two points.  
 
Junior, Alexandra Vartiainen, secured a second-place finish in the 200 breast and tallied 4 points for the Cougars. Standout freshman Dori Hathazi competed strongly against the Wildcats in the 100 fly to earn second place. 
 
The 400 free relay team of Angela Di Palo, Dori Hathazi, Selana Duran, and Noella Harvey closed the meet against the Sun Devils second. 
 
The Cougars will meet next Jan 20th for a dual match against University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
