STANFORD, Calif. (March 26, 2022) – Washington State dropped a 7-1 decision to No. 18 Stanford at Sunken Diamond Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars (9-13, 1-7 Pac-12) received two-hit games from
Jacob McKeon and
Kodie Kolden who singled home a run in the ninth. Kolden's bunt single in the fifth inning extended his on-base streak to 28 games.

Stanford (11-8, 3-5 Pac-12) starter Quinn Mathews kept WSU off balance throughout the afternoon, working seven scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts. Cougar starter
Cole McMillan worked into the seventh inning and struck out five.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
Stanford used a first-inning solo homer to left field and a second-inning first and third play where the runner at first gets in a rundown while the runner at third base raced home for a 2-0 advantage.

WSU threatened a couple times, putting two runners on with nobody out in the fifth inning and nearly had the bases loaded as
Hylan Hall was hit by a pitch after pulling a bunt attempt back but the umpire said Hall made the attempt and called it a foul ball. Stanford retired Hall and the next two hitters to end the threat.

The Cardinal pulled away with a pair of two-run homers in the sixth and seventh innings to pull away.
