SAN FRANCISCO – The Washington State women's basketball team had a pair of players pick up all-league honors Tuesday, March 1, as the Pac-12 Conference coaches voted sophomore Charlisse Leger-Walker to the All-Pac-12 team, while redshirt fifth-year senior Krystal Leger-Walker was selected to the All-Pac-12 honorable mention and All-Pac-12 Defensive team honorable mention selections.
The sister duo from New Zealand was a force to reckon with for the second-straight season, as the Leger-Walkers end the 2021-22 regular season leading the Pac-12 in total points and total assists for the second-straight year. Charlisse has scored 457 points through 28 games this season, while Krystal has dished out 131 assists.
The Leger-Walker sisters helped Washington State set the program records for most wins in a season in the NCAA (19) and most Pac-12 wins in a season (11) this year. The Cougars earned the program's highest finish ever in the Pac-12 standings this season, as Washington State went 11-6 to finish in a tie for second with Oregon. The Cougs earned a bye in the Pac-12 Women's Basketball Tournament for the first time in program history, as they'll be the No. 3 seed, with Oregon taking the No. 2 seed due to a tiebreaker with WSU.
Charlisse, who was the 2020-21 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, becomes the fourth WSU player in program history to earn multiple All-Pac-12 accolades in their career. In addition to her Freshman of the Year honor last season, Charlisse was named to both the All-Pac-12 and All-Pac-12 Freshman teams. Leger-Walker leads the Cougars in scoring this season at 16.3 points per game, which is the fourth-best scoring average in the Pac-12.
The younger Leger-Walker sister once again dominated the Pac-12 her second time through the league. The sophomore led the Pac-12 in field goals made (167), total points scored (457), and was second in the Pac-12 in minutes played (1,004:18) just behind her older sister, Krystal. Charlisse scored 20-or-more points in a league-high 10 games this season, which includes a career-high 30-point performance at Colorado back on Feb. 5. Leger-Walker also scored 10-or-more points in 23 of her 28 games played this season.
The elder Leger-Walker sister concluded her second regular season with the Cougars as Pac-12's assist leader for the second-straight season. Leger-Walker has handed out a total of 131 assists this season, which ties her with Jenni Ruff (131; 1993-94) for the eighth-most assists in a single season in WSU history. Krystal's 4.7 assists per game are the second-highest in the Pac-12 this season. Krystal also collected 45 steals this season, which was seven-most in the Pac-12, while her 1.6 steals per game were 10th-best in the league. Krystal also led the Pac-12 in minutes played this season at 1,008:51.
It is Krystal's first All-Pac-12 honorable mention selection, while it is her second-consecutive All-Pac-12 Defensive honorable mention nod. Leger-Walker becomes the first WSU player since Chanelle Molina in 2019-20 to earn All-Pac-12 honorable mention honors, while she becomes the 18 WSU player to earn the distinction.
The All-Pac-12, All-Pac-12 Freshman, and All-Pac-12 Defensive teams were voted on by the Pac-12 head coaches.
Washington State begins its run in the 2022 Pac-12 Tournament this week in Las Vegas at the Michelob ULTRA Arena. The Cougars earned the tournament's No. 3 seed and will take on the winner of No. 6-seed Utah and No. 11-seed California this Thursday, March 3, at 8:30 p.m. PT. The game will air live on the Pac-12 Network.
