SPOKANE, Wash. – The Washington State rowing team had its second varsity four boat pick up a victory in its flight to highlight a successful day of racing for the Cougars at the 2022 Head of the Spokane.

Washington State's 2V4+, which consisted of Ella Greenslade, Cate Field, Laurita Nemeraviciute, Fiona Elliott, and Anna Bledsoe completed the 5-kilometer race in 19:15 to post the top time in the flight. WSU's 1V4+ shell of Hanah Swissa, Isabella Jachymek, Hannah Elliott, Tannith Johnson, and Molly Miller finished in third place, clocking in at 19:18.

WSU competed in two flights on the Spokane River at the Head of the Spokane. Also, in attendance with the Cougars were host Gonzaga, Oregon State, and Loyola Marymount.

"Thanks to Gonzaga for hosting and organizing another fantastic event," said WSU Rowing Head Coach Jane LaRiviere. "It was a gorgeous day and the team raced well. Shout out to all the novices who were competing in a collegiate race for the first time."

Washington State had a total of four varsity eight boats compete in the first flight of the Head of the Spokane. WSU debuted its new first varsity eight shell at the Spokane River, which is named after Washington State's Gold Medal rower Lisa Roman. The Cougar's 1V8+ boat collected a second-place finish in the first flight, finishing the timed 5-kilometer race in 17:06, just two seconds behind the Bulldog's 1V8+ shell for first place.

WSU's second varsity eight boat clocked in at 17:35 to finish fifth in the first flight. The Cougar's 3V8+ shell finished 11th with a time of 18:41, while Washington State's novice eight boat clocked in at 24:55 in its first race of the fall.

The Cougars also had six pairs compete at the 2022 Head of the Spokane. The duo of Ilaria Macchi and Siena Snow finished third in the pairs race by finishing in 20:43. Sydney Wick and Hana Anderson teamed up to post a fourth-place finish, clocking in at 21:10, while Saskia Steltman and Amy Patten's boat finished with a time of 21:17 to take fifth.

The Cougars will be back in action on Oct. 29, when WSU closes out the fall portion of its schedule at the Head of the American in Gold River, California. Check back with WSUCougars.com for a full regatta preview.
