Box Score PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State University Women's Tennis team captured it second-straight match to open the 2022 season as it posted a 5-2 win over Montana Friday afternoon at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
 
The match began with doubles as WSU's (2-0) No. 2 pair of Savanna Ly-Nguyen and Elyse Tse rode two service breaks to a 6-2 win over Montana's (1-2) Rosie Sterk and Olivia Oosterbaan. Hania Abouelsaad and Maxine Murphy then posted a comfortable 6-2 win over Ivayla Mitkova and Claudia Reguant at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point for the Cougars. With the doubles point secure, Yang Lee and Fifa Kumhom dropped at 6-4 set at No. 1 to Montana's Grace Haugen and Lauren Dunlap.
 
In singles play, WSU clinched the match behind three, straight-set wins near the top of the lineup. Ly-Nguyen had little trouble at No. 1, defeating Haugen 6-1, 6-1 followed by Murphy's 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 over Oosterbaan. With the Cougars one match away from victory, Kumhom had the honors as she completed a 6-0, 7-5 win over Mitkova at No. 4, securing the team victory.
 
At No. 3, Tse's comeback bid fell just short as after saving a match point and winning the second set, she could find no more magic as Dunlap completed a 6-1, 6-7 (9), 1-0 (7) victory to give Montana it's first win. At No. 5, Lee was leading 5-2 before retiring in her match against Sterk in a precautionary move.
 
In the day's final match, Abouelsaad captured her first dual-match as a Cougar with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Reguant at No. 5.
 
The Cougars return to the court Saturday as they host a pair of matches, starting with Eastern Washington at 11 a.m. followed by Idaho at 4 p.m. Both matches will be played at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
