RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. -- The Washington State women's golf begins its packed 2020 spring schedule with a trip down to California to participate in the 2020 Lamkin Invitational hosted San Diego State. Match play opens on Monday, Feb. 10, and will conclude on Tuesday, Feb. 11. Tee-time for Monday is set for 8 a.m. at the Farms Golf Course.
THE LINEUP – Senior
Marie Lund-Hansen opens the spring in the No. 1-slot in the lineup for the Cougars. Sophomore
Amy Chu will slide in at No. 2, while freshmen
Jiye Ham and
Janine Surge occupy the No. 3 and No. 4 holes in the lineup. Junior
Emily Baumgart rounds out the WSU lineup at the Lamkin Invitational at No. 5.
THE FIELD - Washington State will be matched up with BYU on the first day of the Lamkin Invitational. Tuesday's opponent will be announced after Monday's round has concluded. Other teams in the field at the Lamkin Invitational features Central Arkansas, Colorado, San Jose State, San Diego State, UC Irvine and Cal State San Marcos.
SPRING 2020 PREVIEW – The Cougars are in action five times this spring prior to the Pac-12 Championship on April 24. After opening the spring this Monday in Rancho Santa Fe, Washington State heads to San Luis Obispo, California for the Bruin/Wave Invitational on Feb. 24-25. Following that, on March 9-10, the team will travel down to Fairfax, California for the Meadow Club Invitational, hosted by San Francisco. The Cougs close out the month of March by making their second trip to Hawaii during the 2019-20 season for the Anuenue Spring Break Classic, hosted by the University of Hawaii in Maui. Lastly, Washington State will play in its final regular season tournament on April 5-7 for the Silverado Showdown, hosted by Oregon, in Napa, California.
LAST TIME ON THE COURSE – The Cougars closed out their 2019 fall season back on Nov. 4 at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. Sophomore
Darcy Habgood led all WSU golfers by carding a two-under-par (71) in her first round en route to a tie for 40th on the player leaderboard. As a team, the Cougars finished 11th.
COACH KELLI KAMIMURA ON THE TOURNAMENT – "We are excited to get our spring season started next week in San Diego. The team has used the winter growth season to get one-day-better everyday and we are looking forward to competing using a match play format. This is the only time this year we will compete using this format, and it is a great way to get things started."
