FEDERAL WAY, Wash. Washington State used the energy from yesterday to boost them to the third day of the Pac-12 Championships, in the form of Keiana Fountaine and Lauren Burckel breaking two school records in the night events.
In the morning prelims Kate Laderoute left her mark in the 100 Back posting a time of 54.54 to push her to the 3rd spot on the WSU All Time Top 10 list. Laderoute did not stop there, in the finals she swam a 54.51 putting her 1.2 seconds from the school record.
Taylor McCoy improved as well on her swims from morning to night, getting closer to the record for the 400 IM notching a time of 4:15.27 and the record being 4:14.95.
The night events became even more successful for the Cougars as Keiana Fountaine completely smashed the school record in the 200 Freestyle with a new time of 1:46.14 beating the previous record by.56 seconds.The next event the 100 Breast Lauren Burckel joined the record-breaking party with a time of 1:00.89, beating the previous record by .03 seconds.
To round out the night was the 200 Medley Relay with the team of Kate Laderoute, Lauren Burckel, Emily Barrier, and Chloe Larson. The girls ended with a time of 1:41.76 inching closer and closer to that school record of 1:39.13.
"It was a great team effort in the morning to get back tonight, it was great seeing us improve from prelims to finals" said Head Coach Matt Leach "Keiana's 200 Free in the finals was the most aggressive I have seen her swim before, she crushed the field and the school record."
Matt continued by saying "Across the board I am excited for the Cougs and where we are at. I am really excited for tomorrow morning, because I believe we can have somebody swim in the finals in every event. Tomorrow I can see us scoring in all of the events which would be huge for us. Go Cougs."
