DAY 1 COMPLETE WITH A WSU ALL TIME TOP 10 TIME
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. Ryan Falk led off the Cougars for the day in the 800-freestyle relay, notching a WSU All Time Top 10 time moving from 8th to 6th. In that same relay Washington State beat the Utah Utes to place 7th overall.
The first event of the day was the 800-freestyle relay with senior Ryan Falk, and sophomores Emily Barrier, Payton Bokowy, and Keiana Fountaine represented the Cougars. Falk swam a 1:48.68 moving her up from her place with Michee Van Rooyen to her very own spot at 6th place.
With Falk leading the charge the Cougs came back and were able to beat the Utes and redeem themselves from the regular season meeting between the two.
The second and last event of the day for the Cougs came in the form of the 400 Medley Relay, the young team of freshman Mia Zahab, Kate Laderoute, sophomore Lauren Burckel, and junior Chloe Larson they finished only 1.5 seconds behind the WSU school record. Good sign for the Cougars being able to have this team come back next season.
"I was excited about that first relay, it was also nice to beat Utah, it was a nice swim for us to get the ball rolling" said Head Coach Matt Leach "With our 400 Medley Relay we were only 1.5 seconds off our school record, which is an immense improvement from last year."
Matt continued by saying "Tomorrow's is going to be the shortest of sessions, we are going to try to keep the good energy from today into tomorrow on the pool deck and hope to see more people back compared to last year."
