Two Cougars Head to USA Volleyball National Team Tryouts

PULLMAN, Wash. – Two Washington State University volleyball players will be among the 214 athletes from 94 colleges to participate in the three-day open tryouts for the U.S. Women's National Team, and U.S. Collegiate National Teams February 21-23, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) at Colorado Springs.
 
Cougars participating in the tryouts are red-shirt freshman Hannah Pukis, and true freshman Alexcis Lusby.
 
Pukis is a 5-11 setter from Tacoma, Washington. Hannah made an immediate impact from the setter position for Washington State this season, as she earned an All-Pac-12 Honoroable Mention selection, along with being named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman squad. She concluded the regular season with 1,104 assists, finishing sixth overall within the Pac-12. Hannah was also sixth overall in the conference in assists per set with 9.77 overall. She went on to record 15 total double-doubles throughout the season, with the last most notably occurring in the 3-2 Apple Cup victory over the No. 9 Huskies where Hannah posted 41 assists and 17 digs in the match. Pukis turned in her best performances during the biggest matches this year, recording a career-high in assists with 62 overall in a five-set win over No. 18 Utah on the road. 
 
Lusby is a 6-5 opposite from Sparks, Nevada. Alexcis finished fourth this season in total kills for the Cougars, along with posting 1.93 kills per set. She finished her freshman year hitting .229 overall, and was third in total blocks for Washington State with 108 total. Lusby also recorded 0.89 blocks per set, third best for WSU in 2019 as well. Alexcis saw her best match of the season in a road victory over Oregon State with 15 kills on 26 attempts, hitting .462 overall and posted six block assists in the process. 
 
The position breakdown of the women at the tryouts are 47 liberos, 37 middles, 69 outsides, 24 opposites and 37 setters from across the country.. Three-time Olympic gold medalist and U.S. Olympic Hall of Famer Karch Kiraly and the U.S. Women's National Team staff will lead the tryout process, and Washington State head volleyball coach Jen Greeny will join 15 other coaches from around the nation as an evaluator as well. USA Volleyball will announce the selections by the end of March once roster spots are accepted and confirmed.
