Chu and Habgood Named WGCA All-American Scholars

The duo was honored by the Women's Golf Coaches Association for their academic excellence during the 2019-20 season.

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – A pair of spectacular sophomores for the Washington State women's golf team were honored for their academic excellence by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), as Amy Chu and Darcy Habgood were both named WGCA All-American Scholars by the organization on Monday, June 29.

A total of 1,401 women's collegiate golfers recognized with this prestigious honor.  The criteria for selection to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50.

For Chu, this is her second-consecutive WGCA All-American Scholar selection after being named to last season's team.  The Sydney, Australia native ended her sophomore season with her first collegiate win, as she tied with teammate Marie Lund-Hansen for first at the 2020 Meadow Club Collegiate. Chu also posted a top-50 finish in four tournaments during the season and held a scoring average of 75.94 per round.

As for Habgood, who hails from Nambucca Heads, Australia, she was able to maintain a 3.70 GPA, while also posting the team's second-best scoring average at 73.88 strokes per round. Habgood also finished inside the top-10 in two tournaments on the year.

"Being selected to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team is an honor," said head coach Kelli Kamimura. "We are so proud of the work that Amy and Darcy put in in the classroom and on the golf course."

The WGCA All-American Scholar Team selections for Chu and Habgood mark the second time this season that the pair has been honored for their academic achievements. Back in April, both were named the to Pac-12 Spring 2020 Academic Honor Roll.
