PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State Volleyball Head Coach Jen Greeny announced the addition of six future Cougar student-athletes who will join the volleyball program for the 2020 season Tuesday afternoon.
The Cougar volleyball class of 2020 includes Juliana Dalton, Colby Gonzalez, Jenna Howard, Jasmine Martin, Castan Sturm, and Argentina Ung.
"We are thrilled that these incredible young women are joining the Cougar Volleyball family," head coach Jen Greeny said. "This is a remarkable class, both athletically and as people. We cannot wait to get the chance to coach them and integrate them into our program."
Julianna Dalton is a 6-5 outside hitter from Parker, Colorado. Julianna saw numerous accolades during her career at Chaparral High School, including being named the 2019-20 Colorado Gatorade Player of the Year. Along with that award, Dalton was named the Colorado Community Media's Volleyball Player of the Year, was an AVCA Second Team All-American, AVCA All-Region selection, and was named the Colorado 5A Player of the Year after helping leading Chaparral to a Class 5A state championship. During her senior campaign Julianna recorded 313 kills, 289 digs, 90 total blocks, and 76 total serving aces as well. Dalton will look to major in communications and/or marketing while attending Washington State as well.
Colby Gonzalez is a 5-8 defensive specialist/libero from Portland, Texas. Colby was a two-sport athlete while attending Gregory Portland High School, lettering in both volleyball and track. Gonzalez earned numerous accolades in both throughout her high school career, including being named District 29-5A Defensive Player of the Year, District 29-5A Academic All-District, and her team advanced to the regional semi-finals during her senior campaign. She was named the District 29-5A Co-Defensive Player of the Year during her junior season as well. While playing for Corpus Christi Force Gonzalez was named to the PrepVolleyball 2017-18 Sophomore 79 list, and a year ago her squad finished fifth overall at the Tour of Texas.
Jenna Howard is a 5-10 setter from Bothell, Washington. Jenna was a three-year letter-winner while competing for North Creek High School. As a sophomore she was named a 4A All-Kingco Honorable Mention, which led her to earn a First-Team selection the following season during her junior campaign. She received another First-Team selection her senior season, along with helping lead her team to back-to-back 4A State Qualifier appearances. Howard's squad also were 4A Kingco League and Tournament champions during her senior year as well.
Jasmine Martin is a 6-2 middle blocker from Bend, Oregon. She will join the Cougars after attending and playing volleyball for Mountain View High School, where she held a 4.21 grade point average and was a four-time OSAA Scholar Athlete. Martin was named a first-team all-conference player during her junior and senior seasons as a member of the volleyball program. Martin was named one of the Oregon Live Top 30 Middle in the state as well. Jasmine also competed for the Mountain View track and field team, where she is the current school's record holder both the long jump, and the triple jump.
Castan Sturm is a 5-7 defensive specialist/libero from Spokane, Washington. Sturm was a three-sport athlete while attending Mead High School, which included volleyball, track & field, and basketball. Castan earned a number of awards during her senior season which included First-Team All-League, All-State Sportsmanship Award, NECA and IBEW Greater Spokane League Student-Athlete Award, Blue and Gold Alumni Award and finally was a Spokane Shining Start nominee. Sturm posted an overall impressive stat line during her senior campaign as well with 431 digs, 36 service aces, nearly seven digs per set, and recorded a career-high of 42 digs in a single match.
Argentina Ung is a 6-0 setter from Sonora, México. Ung most recently competed for the Mexican National Team, where she has seen numerous accolades in her early career. Argentina was named the U18 Pan-American Cup best setter, and best server, along with being named the U18 World Championship eighth best setter. She is currently a member of the U20 Mexican National Team, and has her sights set on competing for her country at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Argentina attended the Instituto Anglo-Mexicano where she held a 4.0 grade point average throughout her high school career, while competing in both indoor and beach volleyball.
