SAN FRANCISCO – Ready to begin play in the 2019-20 season, the Pac-12 office officially announced the women's basketball schedule and television appearances for the upcoming year Thursday morning. The 2019-20 season marks the first time all 108 conference contests will be televised with 104 games playing on the Pac-12 Network.
Â
For the Cougars, the conference season begins with rivalry week for the second-straight year as WSU hosts rival Washington in the first half of the Boeing Apple Cup series Dec. 29 at 2 p.m. Last season, the Cougs swept the Huskies for just the second time since the mid-1970s. The Cougars win at Beasley Coliseum came by 33 points, their largest margin of victory in the series in the NCAA era.Â
In addition to it being rivalry week, the matchup with Washington marks the second of four double-headers with the men, three of which come during Pac-12 play. The first double-header comes on Dec. 15 when the Cougs take on UC Irvine, a game that also marks the lone non-conference contest for WSU on the Pac-12 Network.
Â
After opening at home, the Cougs hit the road for three contests beginning with a trip to the Bay Area of California. WSU starts the calendar year at Stanford (Jan. 3) before heading to California (Jan. 5) to complete its trip. From there, WSU heads to the West Side to finish off the Boeing Apple Cup Series against Washington for another midday matinee Jan. 11.
Â
Back home for two, the Cougs host Arizona (Jan. 17) and Arizona State (Jan. 19) for the first half of their home-and-home series. Last season, the Cougs only took on the pair once, both at home, due to the unbalanced schedule. The game against Arizona was an instant classic as the Cougs held on 90-88 as the duo of
Borislava Hristova and
Chanelle Molina outdueled the nation's leading scorer in Ari McDonald.
Â
After two at home, WSU heads back on the road to Southern California where the Cougars face off against USC (Jan. 24) and UCLA (Jan. 26). Last season the Cougs played the pair only once, both on the road, dropping both contests, the last of which to USC on Super Bowl Sunday.
Â
The calendar page turn kicks off an extended home stand for WSU with four-straight in the friendly confines of Beasley Coliseum. Cal (Jan. 31) and Stanford (Feb. 2) come to the Palouse in their return trips from the Cougs' conference opening road trip while Colorado (Feb. 7) and Utah (Feb. 9) come for their lone matchups against WSU. While the game against Stanford hits on Super Bowl Sunday, tip-off is scheduled for noon inside Beasley Coliseum. The Cougs game against Utah is slated for another double-header with the men as the women tip-off at noon prior to a 3 p.m. tip for the men against Washington in the Boeing Apple Cup Series.
Â
As the Pac-12 schedule begins to wind down the Cougs head to Arizona for a Valentine's Day rematch with Arizona State (Feb. 14) and a duel in the desert with Arizona (Feb. 16). The final home weekend brings the LA schools to the Palouse with UCLA (Feb. 21) and USC (Feb. 23) coming to town. The final game of the home schedule not only marks senior day for WSU's senior stars but also will be the final double-header alongside of the men as the women tip-off at 11:30 a.m. while the men take on Stanford at 5:30 p.m. with their own senior day.
Â
The regular season comes to a close for the Cougs on the road with a trip to take on Oregon (Feb. 28) and Oregon State (March 1). The trip to Oregon is the only time the Cougs will face the two schools on the year, however, WSU will get a glimpse at the top-ranked Ducks in November as both teams take part in the Paradise Jam in the British Virgin Islands.
Â
After running the gauntlet in the toughest conference in the country, the women head back to Las Vegas for the 2020 Pac-12 Women's Basketball Tournament. The championship tournament is scheduled from March 5-8 at Mandalay Bay Events Center with each game being broadcast live through the Pac-12 Network or on the ESPN family of networks.
