T&F Sees Nine Student-Athletes Earn National Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Washington State University men's and women's track and field teams saw nine total student-athletes receive national recognition for their combination of athletic and academic excellence in 2019 among all NCAA Division I institutions by the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Five WSU women track and field competitors were honored for individual All-Academic awards: Emily Coombs (sophomore, pole vault, Santa Ana, Calif.), elementary education major; Zorana Grujic (sophomore, steeplechase, Novi Sad, Serbia), nutrition major; Aoife Martin, (redshirt junior, throws, Seattle, Wash.), finance major; Molly Scharmann, (redshirt junior, pole vault, Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), entrepreneurship major; and Jordyn Tucker (junior, sprints, Monrovia, Calif.), biology major.
The four WSU men honored were: Peyton Fredrickson (senior, high jump, Vancouver, Wash.), sport management major; Kyler Little (senior, distance, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho), computer science-mathematics major; Paul Ryan (redshirt junior, distance, Moscow, Idaho), accounting major; and Nathan Wadhwani (senior, distance, Maple Ridge, B.C., Canada), economic sciences-finance major.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All‐Academic Track and Field Team, the student‐athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student‐athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
