PULLMAN, Wash. – Greg Bergeron has been named Washington State Baseball's Volunteer Assistant Coach, first-year head coach
Brian Green announced Thursday.

Bergeron comes to WSU after working the previous four seasons at Long Beach State and owns two decades of coaching experience, primarily in Southern California. Prior to his four seasons at LBSU, Bergeron spent 11 seasons as an assistant coach and hitting coach at UC Irvine (2005-07), Cal State Fullerton (2008-11) and Tennessee (2012-15). Bergeron, who helped UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton earn trips to the College World Series, has helped develop over 100 players who have been selected in the MLB Draft, including five first-rounders and 11 who have advanced to the Major Leagues.

"Big day for Cougar Baseball!
Greg Bergeron is one of the best baseball minds on the west coast, he's a proven winner and he's been to Omaha with two different programs," Green said. "Adding Greg as a volunteer is an absolute home run hire, he will make a massive impact with our position players and team as a whole. He has a proven pedigree of what's most important to me and our coaching staff, and that's player development. We are very excited to have Greg, Anne, his son Brooks and the twins (Nicole and Natalie) come to Pullman. It's definitely a HUGE HUGE HUGE day for the Cougs!"
Â
At LBSU, Bergeron oversaw the Dirtbags' offense while also serving as the team's recruiting coordinator. Following the 2017 season, Bergeron was promoted to Associate Head Coach after two seasons as an assistant coach. Long Beach State hit 60 home runs in Bergeron's first two seasons, more than the previous five seasons combined (55 home runs). LBSU also saw improvements in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, and stolen bases during the 2017 season, which culminated in a Big West Championship and NCAA Super Regional appearance.
 Â
In Bergeron's four years at Cal State Fullerton, the Titans made the postseason in all four years while advancing to the Super Regionals three times and made one trip to the College World Series. His success in Fullerton was a continuation of the success he also found at UC Irvine where he also helped the Anteaters to a College World Series appearance for the first time in school history.
Â
Prior to UCI, Bergeron spent eight years coaching at the junior college level with a year at Cerritos College and seven at El Camino College in Torrance, Calif. He was the head coach at El Camino in 2004 after serving as an assistant for the previous six seasons. His coaching career began at Loyola Marymount as a volunteer assistant in 1996.
Bergeron earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from Cal State Dominguez Hills in 1993 and his master's degree in the same subject from Azusa Pacific in 1997. He and his wife, Anne Marie, are the proud parents of twin daughters, Nicole and Natalie, and son, Brooks.
