AUSTIN, Texas – Washington State University Track and Field saw two athletes in action during day one of the NCAA Championships, as
Brock Eager, and
Nick Johnson each competed on the national stage.
Eager, a redshirt senior from Renton, Wash., placed 12th overall in the hammer throw event, earning All-America Second Team honors. Brock saw his best mark during his second attempt at 222-feet 1 inch (67.69m). This is the third occurrence during Eager's Washington State career where he has received All-America honors as well. Eager concludes his collegiate career ranked third all-time in WSU history in the hammer throw, with a mark of 235-feet 10 3/4 inches (71.90m).
"Brock had an amazing season and an amazing collegiate career, culminating in another All-American honor," said WSU Director of Cross Country/Track & Field
Wayne Phipps. "Coach
Julie Taylor and Brock make a great team and I'm excited to watch him continue his post-collegiate career, starting with the US National Championships later this summer."
Johnson, a junior from Spokane, Wash., finished 19th overall in the 110-meter hurdles preliminary round, and unfortunately did not advance to the final round later this week. Nick finished fifth during the second heat of the event, recording a time of 14.01. He currently sits at seventh all-time in Washington State history in the event, with a lifetime best of 13.77 as well.
"Nick took another great step forward by making it to the NCAA Championships and earning Honorable Mention All-America honors," Phipps discussed. "Nick has progressed every year and we knew we were going to have to take some chances in order to make the final on Friday. It did not quite work, but he gained a lot of important experience as he moves forward to the US National Championships this summer and to next year at WSU."
