THIS WEEK:Â For the first time since the 2012 season, the Washington State tennis team will compete in the NCAA Championship, beginning Friday, May 3 when it faces No. 19 Miami at the Oklahoma State regional in Stillwater, Okla. The match is scheduled for Noon PT at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center and marks the first meeting between the two teams. The Cougars enter the match with a 19-10 record and a No. 33 national ranking.
LAST TIME OUT:Â The Cougars defeated Colorado 4-0 in the first round of the Pac-12 Championship before falling to eventual champion Stanford in the quarterfinals.

2019 OKLAHOMA STATE REGIONAL: Washington State enters the 2019 NCAA Championship ranked No. 33 nationally and will face No. 19 Miami in the first round. Host Oklahoma State enters as the No. 15 national seed and faces Central Arkansas in the first round, Friday, May 3. Winners of the first two matches will face off Saturday, May 4 at Noon PT.

ABOUT MIAMI: The Hurricanes enter the 2019 NCAA Championship with an 18-7 overall record. Miami was 8-7 against nationally-ranked teams, with only one of those losses coming to a team outside the Top 20. The Hurricanes are led by junior Estela Perez-Somarriba, who enters the NCAA Championship ranked No. 1 nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Perez-Somarriba, the 2019 ACC Player of the Year, has posted a 36-5 record this season, having won her last nine matches.

WASHINGTON STATE NCAA HISTORYÂ - This year marks the seventh time in school history the Cougars have advanced to the NCAA Championship and the first since the 2012 campaign. WSU is 2-6 in NCAA Championship play, defeating Indiana, 4-0 in 2001 and Florida State in 2012 for their two victories. The Cougars made NCAA Tournament appearances in 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2008 and 2012. In that 2012 appearance, the Cougars defeated No. 36 Florida State, 4-3, before falling to eventual champion and No. 2 seed Florida in Gainesville.

BAYERLOVA PLAYER OF THE WEEK:Â Washington State sophomore
Michaela Bayerlova was named the Pac-12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week, April 15, following a pair of nationally-ranked wins over the Southern California schools. Bayerlova had a pivotal win over UCLA's Jada Hart, ranked No. 38, as the Cougars defeated No. 10 UCLA 4-2. Bayerlova followed that with a convincing 6-1, 6-3 win over USC's Salma Ewing two days later. For the season, Bayerlova is 22-5 in singles, 7-2 against ranked players. The honor was the third POW award in her career.
ROAD WARRIORS:Â Washington State has played 16 of its 27 matches this season on the road, racking up the frequent flyer miles. Including the trip to Stillwater, Okla. For the NCAA Championship first and second rounds, the Cougars will return to Pullman having traveled 23,229 miles.

ITA RANKINGS:Â Washington State University women's tennis team is ranked No. 33 in the most recent ITA rankings. Earlier this year, WSU has held rankings of 34 (April 23), 35 (April 16), 42 (April 9), 36 (April 2), 35 (March 26), 33 (March 19), 36 (March 12), 28 (March 5), 31 (Feb. 26) and 15 (Feb. 19). The No. 15 ranking was the highest in program history.

BAYERLOVA, MYLONAS AND SATO SELECTED TO NCAA SINGLES/DOUBLES DRAWS: Washington State sophomore

Hikaru Sato was picked for the doubles draw. Bayerlova, 22-6 on the season and ranked No. 42 nationally, is making her second-straight appearance in the singles draw, reaching the second round last year before falling to the eventual runner-up in three sets. Bayerlova is the first player in school history to reach the NCAA singles championships in her first-two seasons. Mylonas and Sato have amassed a 25-6 record this season and are ranked a career-best 22 entering the tournament. The duo has risen from 75 at the start of April to its current No. 22 ranking in the most recent poll. They become the first WSU doubles team to reach the NCAA Championship since Stacey McKenna and Erica Perkins did so in 2002.
