Gonzaga, Oregon State, Loyola Marymount, and Seattle Pacific journeyed to Pullman to compete at Wawawai Landing on the Snake River Sunday, March 24.

PULLMAN, Wash. – Gonzaga, Oregon State, Loyola Marymount, and Seattle Pacific journeyed to Pullman to compete at Wawawai Landing on the Snake River Sunday, March 24. The regatta hosted by Gonzaga was originally scheduled to take place in Spokane but due to prolonged winter weather conditions was moved to Pullman.

"It turned out to be a fantastic day, I can't even remember a better race day from a weather standpoint… I think it was pretty much perfect conditions all day," said head coach Jane LaRiviere.

This meeting between OSU and WSU marks the battle for the Winchell Cup and the Crawford Plate. The Winchell Cup goes to the team who wins the dual while the Crawford Plate goes to the winner of the varsity eight. OSU swept both the Winchell Cup and Crawford Plate for the first time since 2009 with wins in the varsity eight, second varsity eight, and varsity four. The two teams tied for the plate in 2014. WSU and Gonzaga will compete for the Fawley Cup April 27 in Pullman.

"I think everybody was really excited to race today... I think it was a good first effort and we got to run down the course with the other crews a second time, and even though it was unofficial we learned a lot in the second race too," said LaRiviere.

The varsity eights from WSU and OSU battled it out for the Crawford Plate in the second race of the day. OSU secured first place and the Crawford Plate with a time of 6:34.9. WSU (Paige Danielson, Kamila Ondrackova, Renee Kemp, Rosalina Torcivia, Jessica Norris, Megan Duthart, Ivy Elling Quaintance, Emma Gribbon, Chloe White) followed with a time of 6:42.3 to take second. Gonzaga followed with a time of 6:56.1 to earn third while LMU finished fourth (7:09.25).

In the second varsity eight race, OSU finished first (6:52.7) followed by GU (6:57.1). WSU (Sophia Rogers, Sara Brevick, Emma Conaty, Leena Kattel, Isabella Cristelli, Grace Arnis, Taija Thompson, Ella Cowan de Wolf, Juliet Perry) finished third with a time of 7:00.2. followed by LMU which earned fourth (7:08.1).

OSU's varsity four secured first place (7:26.05) followed by WSU's varsity four (Emily Weible, Nora Hefte, Linnea Davison, Emma Barrett, Hannah Welzbacker) which earned second place (7:35.74). Gonzaga captured third (7:42.08) while LMU finished fourth (7:52.2).

WSU's third varsity eight (Sue Yu, Rachael Christman, Madison Williams, Katelyn Ware, Madeleine Bingham, Ony Chigozie, Meg Montgomery, Olivia Olmstead, Paige McNamara-Pittler)
took first place (7:02.62) followed by OSU (7:13.25) which earned second. SPU followed with a time of 7:26.35 to take third.

The second varsity fours competed in the first race of the day. OSU captured first place with a time of 7:36.16 followed by WSU (Cassidy Thompson, Rachael Christman, Madison Williams, Emily Austin, Aneesa Turner-Rahman) with a time of 7:57.65 to secure second place. Gonzaga's second varsity four placed third with a time of 8:20.67.

WSU's novice eight (Abigail Linnenkohl, Kyra Parker, Kailey Kassuba, Natalie Williams, Kaylee Logan, Emily Carlson, Allison Nelson, Samantha Schmidt, Jennifer O'Dell) took first (7:02.7) followed by OSU (7:08.8) and GU (7:52.2) respectively.

OSU and Gonzaga's men's teams also competed at the regatta. Those results can be found below.

Next the Cougars will travel south to San Diego, Calif. to compete at the San Diego Crew Classic April 6 - 7.
