WSU TO HOST SPRING OPENER SUNDAY: The No. 15 Washington State women's rowing team hosts its spring  opener against Gonzaga, Oregon State, Loyola Marymount, and Seattle Pacific Sunday, March 24, at Wawawai Landing...the meet originally scheduled in Spokane, Wash. was moved to Pullman, Wash. due toÂ
prolonged winter weather conditions...the teams will race over a 2,000-meter course at Wawawai Landing...racing will start at 9 a.m. but all times are subject to change...Gonzaga and Oregon State's men's teams will also compete.
LAST TIME ON THE WATER: In the last regatta of fall 2018, the Cougars raced in Spokane against Gonzaga and Oregon State...the varsity eight tied with Oregon State's varsity eight for first place with a time of 16:21...the second varsity eight also secured first place (16:51) followed by Oregon state and Gonzaga respectively...WSU's third varsity eight boat placed second (17:25) behind Oregon State's third varisty eight boat while WSU's fourth varsity eight boat  took third (17:32)...WSU's novice eight was victorious over Gonzaga's novice eight and received first place with a time of 19:09...and the second novice eight took first (19:17) against Gonzaga's second novice eight.
WSU HEAD COACH JANE LARIVERE ON THE SPRING OPENER: "It's really, super exciting. It's by far the biggest event we've had down at the Snake because I think the previous record was only hosting two men's teams and two wome's teams, so we're blitzing our previous record of athletes... Our team can hardly wait."
COUGARS RANKED 15TH IN USROWING/CRCA POLL: WSU is ranked 15th in the nation in this week's USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Division I Coaches Poll presented by Pocock Racing Shells, release March 20...Washington State's No. 15 ranking keeps it in the nation's top-15 for a 41st-consecutive week dating back to March 25, 2015...overall, WSU has been ranked in the top-20 for 109-consecutive weeks, dating back to June 11, 2008...five of the seven Pac-12 rowing teams are ranked in the top-20 poll, California-first, Washington-second, Stanford-third, USC-12th, and WSU-14th…Oregon State (21) and UCLA (16) are receiving votes.Â
COACHING STAFF: Jane LaRiviere is in her 17th year as head coach of the WSU women's rowing program...

Cougars, and second year as associate head coach...Campbell is entering his fourth year....Kempsell comes in for his second year, his first as an assistant coach with the Cougars after serving as the graduate assistant last year.
DIRECTIONS TO WAWAWAI LANDING: From Highway 195 (North or South), turn west on Wawawai Road at the blinking yellow light...travel on Wawawai Road for 10 miles, the road will end at a stop sign...turn right and drive six miles down into the canyon...go past the county park on the right and over the railroad tracks...the boathouse is a cinderblock building on the right...park on the side of the road or in the parking lot south of the boathouse.
NEXT FOR THE COUGARS: The Cougars head south to California to compete at the San Diego Crew Classic at Mission Bay, at San Diego, Calif...the two-day event will be held Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7.
